Death Bringer

clara was terrified. as the knife moved from her throat she took a deep breath but managed to maintain eye contact with mors. this was the doctor - she was in there, somewhere… she had to be. why else was she alive? unless the doctor truly was gone & this was a game…

through her shirt she could feel the point of the knife, the fabric the only thing stopping it from cutting her skin. 

That wasn’t the right answer. With one movement, she physically moved closer, pressing the knife firmly into Clara’s shoulder. She rose her other hand and tilted Clara’s head up, gently, so she could meet her eyes. She didn’t want to hurt her. But this was one of the times where she didn’t care. She couldn’t care. Any pain that went over Clara’s face? Lost in her mind.

She tilted the knife a bit, the point sliding into her shoulder easily, as she then quickly pulled the knife down, through her skin, and dropped it to the ground behind her, grabbing the girl and wrapping her arms around her instantly afterwards.

“i loved you.”

it felt cheap to say it now. everything she’d been through with the doctor’s previous faces & she’d never once admitted it out loud. she thought the woman would have known that her feelings had existed, but apparently not. clara hated what the doctor had become now, but that love was still there. she could change. 

mors’s expression softened & clara stepped forwards to close the gap between them. this was her chance, surely?

“I may not have the ability to feel empathy anymore, but I can assure you that I still feel love. And my love for you has never faded.”
