Look, I never had the weaboo phase. Never the Naruto phase, but by God I was and still am unrepentant anglophile trash. My stories involved ghosts and vampires and the fae, tall and dark haired men with troubled pasts and bad judgement, ancient houses half alive, psychotic lady villains– all around girls who preferred books to boys and the fantastic to football, and this fucking glorious train wreck of a movie captured my earliest glimpses of the gothic better than any other film I’d seen.

CRIMSON PESAK IS THE JUPITER ASCENDING FOR GOTH GIRLS AND BOOKWORMS.

Crimson Peak isn't a good movie. Visually lovely, yes. Contrite with a forced love story and obvious plot devices. Literally nothing surprises you and the villians Scooby-style monologue in the end. No woman empowerment here either. The main character went from a smart woman & author to a mansy-pansy frightened girl who swoons and stumbles her way around the 2nd half of the movie.
