hogwarts slytherin girls in their 4th year creating spells and potions that will alert you if thereâs a love potion in your food/drink bc that shit is basically a date rape drug and thereâs no fucking way it would be treated as a funny joke and that nobody in the wizarding world would be angry as hell about it

Problems
Child: I have a problem
Parent: Well you CAN'T have this problem because I had this problem in the past only WORSE
Child: That doesn't make any sense. How is MY problem cancelled out by a problem YOU had?
Parent: DON'T SASS ME
Child: But-
Parent: YOU JUST ALWAYS HAVE TO HAVE THE LAST WORD, DON'T YOU?
What people thank an animal should be kept in and what the animal actually should be kept in. (click the pictures)
Not based on personal preference, but observable fact. An animal kept in an environment that is too small is unhappy and stressed. This can absolutely lead to a short miserable life.
I see a lot of people, virtually every day, who have these preconceived notions about what an animal can live in. A hamster lives in a hamster cage of course, because the happy little hamster on the box says so! This cage is for finches, they even keep them in it at the store! My friend had a rabbit and it lived in that cage so Iâll get that one. This sort of dangerous socially accepted neglect is not just limited to bettas and goldfish. Mammals and birds are subject to it as well.
What people donât realize is that almost all commercial or common cages are completely unacceptable as homes for what they are marketed for. Those guinea pig/rabbit cages? Garbage. Those tiny finch cages? Torture. That cute technicolor hamster cage? A gimmick.
All animals need a certain amount of space for enrichment and general well being. That does not mean the cages someone is trying to sell you. It means the cages that are best.
And to all those people who are thinking âWell I had a hamster in a cage that size and it was fine.â
Stop.
You have only observed your animal. You have only observed the animal in a confined space and most likely showing signs of distress or behavioral problems. But you interpreted it as normal because that is all you know. You havenât seen rabbits in appropriate sized cages. You havenât seen parakeets in appropriate cages. You havenât seen a hamster who is happy.
Signs and symptoms of cruelly confined hamsters. (The same applies to mice, gerbils, and rats):
Biting the cage bars
Obsessive digging
"Laziness" (lack of foraging/exploring)
Aggression
Pacing
Running in circles
Obesity
Signs and symptoms of cruelly confined rabbits:
Biting the cage bars
Running in circles
Bouncing off the cage walls
Aggression, irritability when being held
Cage aggression
Constantly banging toys/decor around
Obesity
"Laziness"
Signs and symptoms of cruelly confined guinea pigs
Biting the cage bars
Banging their water bottle on the side of the enclosure constantly
Aggression tword other guinea pigs or you
Obesity
"Laziness"
Signs and symptoms of cruelly confined parakeets
Feather plucking
Aggression to other parakeets
Pacing
Obesity
Repetitive behaviors (constant singing into a corner, going from the same perch to the same perch over and over again)
Fearfulness
Signs and symptoms of cruelly confined finches
Aggression to other finches
Flight tracing: Going from one perch to another in the exact same spot the exact same way over and over again
Obesity
Animals are more complex than people give them credit for. They to do all of the natural behaviors theyâre built to do. Exploring, foraging, playing, hiding, interacting (or not interacting) with another animal, etc. All of this is taken from them in cages like the ones above.
People need to educate themselves about an animal before getting one. Itâs a thought thatâs been said a million times over and yet nobody actually does it. The reality is people who want a hamster/guinea pig/rabbit are not going to sit down and read ten articles and three books waiting 2 months while they set everything up unless they are already enthusiasts who are willing to put that much into their pets. I can say from experience that over 80% of the people who buy pets buy them to make their kids happy with no regard to what the animal needs. What is most important to them is getting a present for their child regardless of any consequences that decision comes with.
So we have to try and get this information out there. We have to try and make THIS the general knowledge about these animals.
Resources and very good reads for anyone who has or wants any of the animals listed here. Iâll add more when I find them.

VERY IMPORTANT
Itâs the same with fish. Fish get stuck into tiny bowls with no plants or hiding spaces, its just awful.
YEAH THIS POST IS VERY IMPORTANT, also those cages for gerbils and hamsters are terrible in another way because they are made of PLASTIC and rodents CHEW, they NEED TO CHEW they need to be given things like wood and cardboard to chew they will literally CHEW THEIR WAY OUT OF THE PLASTIC CAGE. when I was a little kid I got gerbils and they lived in one of those plastic cages and they destroyed it in months, when I moved them to a decent cage they became much more playful and active and better pets overall bc they had room to run and play ⌠donât give gerbils plastic Jesus Christ IT ENRAGES ME THAT THEY MARKET THESE CAGES FOR RODENTS.

WHEN I WAS A YOUNG BOY MY FATHER TOOK ME INTO THE CITY TO SEE A MARCHING BAND,HE SAID
âWhy are all my flowers dead, I gave them water to help them live.
I hooked them up to iv bags and performed blood transfusions with my own liquids.
Itâs as if they were in a head on collision, in a 12 car pile up on a highway in August. As if they laid upon the asphalt in the sun, withering to the bone, they pass.
Why are all my flowers dead.â
I can be someoneâs and still be my own.

what. why? someone pls explain to me pls i wasnt born yet in 1999 why turn computer off before midnight? what happen if u dont?
y2k lol everyone was like âthe supervirus is gonna take over the world and ruin everything and end the world!!!â
This is the oldest Iâve ever felt. Right now.
WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN YOU WERENâT BORN YET IN 1999.
Ahh the Millenium bug.
It wasnât a virus, it was an issue with how some old computers at the time were programmed to deal with dates. Basically some computers with older operating systems didnât have anything in place to deal with the year reaching 99 and looping around to 00. It was believed that this inability to sync with the correct date would cause issues, and even crash entire systems the moment the date changed.
People flipped out about it, convinced that the date discrepancy between netwoked systems would bring down computers everywhere and shut down the internet and so all systems relying on computers, including plane navigation etc. would go down causing worldwide chaos. It was genuinely believed that people should all switch off computers to avoid this. One or two smart people spoke up and said âum hey, this actually will only effect a few very outdated computers and theyâll just display the wrong date, so it probably wonât be harmfulâ but were largely ignored because people selling books about the end of the world were talking louder.
In the end, absolutely nothing happened.
Oh gosh.
Iâve been a programmer working for various government agencies since the early 1990s and I can say with some confidence:
NOTHING HAPPENED BECAUSE WE WORKED VERY HARD FIXING SHIT THAT MOST DEFINITELY WOULD HAVE BROKEN ON 1-JAN-2000.
One example I personally worked on: vaccination databases.
My contract was with the CDC to coordinate immunization registries â you know, kidsâ vaccine histories. What they got, when they got it, and (most importantly) which vaccines they were due to get next and when. These were state-wide registries, containing millions of records each.
Most of these systems were designed in the 1970s and 1980s, and stored the childâs DOB year as only two digits. This means that â had we not fixed it â just about every child in all the databases I worked on would have SUDDENLY AGED OUT OF THE PROGRAM 1-JAN-2000.
In other words: these kids would suddenly be âtoo oldâ to receive critical vaccines.
Okay, so thatâs not a nuke plant exploding or airplanes dropping from the sky. In fact, nothing obvious would have occurred come Jan 1st.
BUT
Without the software advising doctors when to give vaccinations, an entire generationâs immunity to things like measles, mumps, smallpox (etc) would have been compromised. And nobody would even know there was a problem for months â possibly years â after.
You think the fun & games caused by a few anti-vaxers is bad?
Imagine whole populations going unvaccinated by accident⌠one case of measles and the death toll might be measured in millions.
This is one example I KNOW to be true, because I was there.
I also know that in the years leading up to 2000 there were ad-hoc discussion groups (particularly alt.risk) of amazed programmers and project managers that uncovered year-2000 traps⌠and fixed them.
Quietly, without fanfare.Â
In many cases because admitting there was a problem would have resulted in a lawsuit by angry customers. But mostly because it was our job to fix those design flaws before anyone was inconvenienced or hurt.
So, yeah⌠all that Y2K hysteria was for nothing, because programmers worked their asses off to make sure it was for nothing.
Bolding mine.
Absolutely true. Â My Mom worked like crazy all throughout 1998 and 1999 on dozens of systems to avoid Y2K crashes. Nothing major happened because people worked to made sure it didnât.
Now if we could just harness that concept for some of the other major issues facing us today. Â
this meme came so far since i saw it this morning. god i love tumblr teaching tumblr about history.
