Moriko is in a constant struggle between assuming the identity of man or beast. The decision to assume one or the other is not entirely influenced by her own being; rather, there are numerous outside influences that will often try to tug her in one direction or the other. Her desire to stay true to herself and what she wants often clashes with the prejudices of outsiders that think otherwise.
the first installment in a series i hope to work on for the entirety of this year. one of the people i play DnD with matched tarot cards to all the PCs and NPCs in our campaign and in a fit of inspiration i decided i wanted to try drawing these out. boy, am i ambitious. i did a little research and a lot of studying of traditional tarot cards and fan created ones, and while i don’t feel like i 100% nailed the style i wanted, i feel like one hell of a job otherwise. im impressed with myself! i learned so much from this and hopefully as i continue working on the others i’ll get closer and closer to the way i want them!
last session, Moriko was crying a lot because of a lot of things going on and her good ol’ pal Sordnan actually came over to cheer her up and patted her head and everything it was great

If Moriko could turn the party into an animal, what would she pick?
Axema - Bengal tiger. Tiger's are the largest members of the cat family and are powerful animals. They are often revered for their beauty and strength. While they are typically solitary animals, they are not necessarily opposed to social interaction and can occassionaly be found wandering together in groups.
Lucyle - Bird of paradise. Numerous species make up the birds of paradise group, but honestly Moriko would pick just about any for Lucyle. Lucyle works hard on her costumes to show them off, and usually accompanies the look with a dramatic act. Birds of paradise are flashy birds that go around singing to attract mates and intimidate rivals. Honestly you couldn't find a better comparison.
Mina - Brown bear. Brown bears are walking masses of muscle and little could honestly take on this animal. Moriko sees Mina as this animal not just on the basis of strength, but also because bears in general are stereotyped as being aggressive in protecting their family. Which is exactly how Mina is.
Juliet - White-tailed deer. Deer in general are gentle creatures. They're always looking and watching for any sign of danger, and typically bolt at the first sign of it. However, little do most people know how dangerous a deer can be if forced to fight. Moriko chooses this animal for Juliet based on the latter traits, rather than the former.
Rogen - Mute swan. Quiet birds that are very good parents there is literally nothing more to this.
Reza - Squirrel glider. As humerous as it would be to give the Reza a larger form completely unsuited for her, Moriko wouldn't be able to help herself in turning the goblin into such a tiny animal. Squirrel gliders are small fuzzy animals that climb and are able to glide from one point to another as implied by their name. A creature with such mobility is very fitting for Reza. And instead of having large ears in her normal form, Reza would instead have a large tail.
Red - St. Bernard. When Moriko thinks of Red she sees someone willing to help people. While many animals could very easily fit this general description, the St. Bernard in particular stands out the most given the history of the breed.
Calsira - Bonobo. The ever rambunctious Calsira reminds Moriko of a bonobo. Bonobos are highly social apes whom tend to solve all of their conflicts with love, rather than war. They just want to have a good time, just like Calsira does.
Sordnan - Crested porcupine. He reminds her a lot of a porcupine because of his cold and distant attitude. Porcupines are very prickly and very difficult to handle unless you know exactly how to do so. They have a soft spot somewhere. It's just a matter of finding it and being very gentle with it.
Joey - Western grey kangaroo. Kangaroos are the natural world's greatest hand to hand fighters. Like seriously is she going to pick anything else for Joey (heh...joey)?
Natalia - Common raven. Despite the name, these birds are anything but common. Raven's are highly intelligent birds, able to solve puzzles and problems that most animals would be unable to. The first thing Moriko typically associates with Natalia is her intelligence. Moriko feels that a raven would be the only animal to fit Natalia and do her justice.
Aziz - Wild cat. Wild cats earn their name well. Their fierce creatures. Moriko's gotta give Aziz some credit, he fits the description for the most part. Too bad he doesn't know that despite their name, wild cats are very small and look about as threatening as a house cat.
DM - Turtle. Moriko doesn't know anything about DM so it would be very hard to gauge what animal he would be. The safest route would be to turn him into a turtle so he hopefully can't go too far. For added measure, she ties a balloon around his shell. She realy doesn't want to lose him.
can we all take a moment to appreciate the fact that the picture on the left was the first picture i ever did up of Moriko in an attempt to figure out her design and the picture on the right is the shithead we ended up with
i was debating if i even wanted to post this up but i decided to do it. this comic was gonna be Moriko’s sort of introduction and i wanted to do this like side story where there was a group of rats under her control and she used them for information gathering on the city she was at. curse me and my lack of motivation. i wish i had tried harder to finish it before Limbo disappeared alksjdf

The first time they met under the mistletoe, it was confusion at what was going on. Lucyle with stars in her eyes explained to the pair what the purpose of the innocuous plant was while Calsira stood by with a grin plastered on her face. Mina's expression had changed from the boredom look to one filled with slightly more intrigue. Eyebrows raised just barely as the thought churned in her head. Moriko, on the other, had gone from curious to flustered in the blink of an eye. Her nails dug into the hem of her shirt as she twisted the fabric around her finger tips.
"K-kiss," she had sputtered.
Moriko was barely given any time before Mina swooped down and pecked a chaste kiss to her nose. If blushing was capable for a kitsune, the color of her skin would rival her natural fur color. Moriko was quick to turn away and place her hands over her face. She whined like a common dog, but giggled like a school girl. Mina looked rather pleased with herself.
The second time they met under the mistletoe was quicker than either would have anticipated. With the knowledge of the plant firmly ingrained in Moriko's head, it was she that instigated the second meeting only hours after the first. Most of the other residents of their happy little home were caught winding down for the day. Dinner had been consumed, and with full bellies, each resident felt the need to sleep off the impending food coma.
Moriko had other plans.
The idea had hatched in her brain only moments after the first kiss. Could that first exchange really be called a kiss, a true one? For weeks, Moriko had searched for a reason to approach Mina with a kiss - a proper kiss. The holidays had given her a reason.
One hand was closed in a tight fist, snugly hidden behind her back, as she made her way to the garden and slipped inside. Dressed in her human form, Moriko tip toed through the row of plants to the very back of the garden where Mina lay. Moriko made no attempt to hide herself. She carelessly brushed against plants and purposely knocked a knee against a wooden table. As she came to a halt in front of the barbarian, Moriko cleared her throat, an unecessary gesture.
Mina looked up, the greeting prepared on the tip of her tongue quickly extinguished. She closed her mouth and furrowed her brows.
"Why are you in your human form?" she asked instead of greeted.
Moriko shrugged with a single shoulder, toes digging into the soft dirt. She lifted her free hand and gestured for Mina to stand. "I just...a surprise..." Moriko spoke. Her eyes never quite met Mina's, even after the taller woman stood to her full height.
"I'd never turn down a visit from you but uh, what are you doing here?" Mina asked. She had a grin, though it was a little lop sided.
Winter was in full effect and yet at that very moment, Moriko felt warmer than she did in the summer. Maybe it was the garden itself with its humid air. Or maybe, just maybe, it was how hot her human face was as she slowly drew back her hidden fist and uncurled her fingers. Instead of suffocating the mistletoe in her hand like she had done up until that point, she now held it delicately between her index finger and thumb above her head. As she lifted it as high as she could, Moriko looked up at Mina for the first time.
Mina eyed the plant. Her lopsided grin fell and her expression turned blank. This lasted a few seconds before the realization kicked in. She didn't have time to react after that.
Moriko stood on her toes and practically lunged at Mina. She pressed her lips to Mina's in a terribly awkward fashion as her free hand nestled itself in Mina's hair. Their noses bumped against each other and their teeth clacked at the sudden contact. Moriko pulled away with wide eyes. Kissing was a lot harder than she thought. That and Moriko was used to her nose being much longer than it was at the current time.
Mina tilted her head back and laughed as Moriko looked at her. She maneuvered her hand to the back of Moriko's head before gently pushing the disguised kitsune forward. "Like this," she laughed as she tilted her head. Now at a slower pace, their lips were able to meet comfortably. Moriko remained stiff for only a moment before she began to relax and melt into Mina's kiss.
How embarrassing. Moriko had come here to instigate a kiss and had instead had the whole thing flipped on its head.
Moriko had never kissed properly. The word 'kiss' didn't even exist in kitsune language. The closest form of contact they had to kissing was intimate nuzzling and maybe a gently lick on the neck or the top of another's head. Moriko hadn't been introduced to the idea of kissing until she had watched a bad drama on television so many years ago back when she still lived in Japan.
The concept was weird then and it was still weird now even as she experienced it first hand.
The act itself was a lot more physical intensive than Moriko had inticipated. She had thought a kiss just involved the lips. Yet her she was, actively involving her hands and, well, her entire body. One of her hands still rested in Mina's hair while the second had released the mistletoe long ago and instead curled itself in Mina's new shirt. She pressed her body close to the barbarian's. Moriko wasn't sure why she insisted on doing this but it just felt right. To be so close to Mina that she could just fall in at any given moment.
What she was still unsure about is if she should be breathing. She didn't. At all. Their kiss lasted a solid minute before Moriko had to break away and suck in air so she didn't suffocate. Mina stared at her and laughed. A hearty laugh. One that shook the body and by proxy, shook Moriko as she was still latched on pretty tightly to the other woman. Moriko's face was red and the color and warmth from her blush began to seep to other parts of her body. Her ears and her neck and her chest turned a dark shade and was warm to the touch. Maybe it was from the lack of air, but Moriko was more willing to bet it was the embarrassment she felt. She didn't know, or understand, what was going on, only that it was happening.
Embarrassed or not, Moriko liked it. A lot. She wanted this to happen more often. She needed excuses to do this more in the future and the holidays had technically ended.
Mina was still laughing, though she attempted to stifle it. "You're supposed to breathe," was all Mina said. Moriko leaned forward and pressed her face into Mina's collarbone. She nodded against Mina's skin. Mina could feel the warmth from Moriko's face, even through the shirt she wore. It was kinda nice, even if she did feel a little bad about the cause of it all.
