Marcelo’s message to Cris: “We’ll be together again soon”
Me:
“They just kept coming towards me and they fell on me! I was just changing my lens as the players ran towards me. They were delighted. Then they suddenly realized that I was underneath them. The [players] asked me if I was OK. One picked up my lens and another player (Domagoj Vida) gave me a kiss.” - AFP’s photographer, Yuri Cortez

me watching u all cheer for cr*atia while remembering how part of their nt sang a fascist/nazi song after winning agaisnt argentina
My dude, my pal, my internet friend. First of all: no.
Second of all: if you wanna talk trash about something, especially something on a big scale such as this, educate yourself on the subject you’re about to trash. Read a book or ten about it. Watch a few documentaries maybe. Don’t read a half assed, uneducated post somewhere online and go off on that or whatever it is you did that inspired you to make this unintelligent and frankly, insulting post.
The song that was sang was Čavoglave.
Čavoglave is a small village in Croatia where the author and singer of the song was born and raised. He wrote the song in the hardest days of Croatia’s War for independence when Serbia attacked and slathered and tortured Croatian people and ruined and occupied Croatian territory.
The song was written during the war. The war in which the attacker and the aggressor was both in numbers and in ammunition much stronger than Croatia’s own army. Hell, we basically had no army. Our defenses were made of boys and girls who couldn’t stand to see their home being forcibly taken from them so they took up arms and left their families to defend it. Many of them never came back and many of those are still not found, rotten in unmarked and mass graves. Their families still, to this very day, this very hour have no idea what happened to them except that they went to fight in the war to get their homeland out of the enemy’s occupation, and never came back. They went knowing damn well what was waiting, that they’ll have limited fire power, limited support, limited supplies and shitty gear. And they went to defend anyway.
In those conditions, that song was written. They all knew damn fucking well the difference in the strength between the entire fucking army of Yugoslavia and our defense, so the only thing that kept those people going was their heart and morale. Their spirit. Something that they uplifted through a song that literally says: for our home, for our freedom, we fight.
The song is about lifting the spirit of Croatian people and fighting against the enemy that wanted to take our land and make it their own for no other reason but hate and greed.
So no, it’s not nazi. And no it’s not fascist. It’s a morale boosting song that has nothing to do with anything but encouraging people to not lose hope and faith for freedom and freeing Croatian territory from Serbian occupation.
So cut the crap and educate yourself on some history if you’re interested, but if you’re not than don’t even try to talk shit about things you don’t know or understand. Again, you wanna learn? Be my fucking guest. Otherwise shut the fuck up.
