The domain's name is noticeably similar to watayuri-anime, the official website for the upcoming anime adaptation of Miman's Yuri Is My Job! (Watashi no Yuri wa Oshigoto Desu!). Its registration similarly fueled speculation of an anime adaptation before the announcement of the series. Yuri is my Job! is published in Japanese by Ichijinsha and serialized in Comic Yuri Hime alongside the manga adaptation of I'm in Love with the VIllaienss.

Rumors of an anime adaptation began online after prominent leakers posted online about the series. SugoiLITE on Twitter, who has a good track record for correcting leaking upcoming anime announcements and correctly stated that both Yuri is My Job! and The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess (Tensei Ōjo to Tensai Reijō no Mahō Kakumei) would receive anime adaptation, posted about the series. According to SugoiLITE, they heard about the anime adaptation "from a partner."

Leaker 切南瓜皮 (Qiè nánguā pí) also posted about the web domain registration on Weibo but claims that they "haven't received any news yet" regarding the series.

I’m in Love with the Villainess is a Yuri isekai series following Oohashi Rei, an ordinary office worker who awakens suddenly to find herself reincarnated as Rae Taylor, the protagonist from her favorite otome game. However, Rae has no interest in chasing any of the game’s original three romance options. She has eyes only for the main antagonist, the elite aristocrat Claire.

The series began as a webnovel by author Inori before being picked up for publication as a light novel series by GL Bunko. The series gained popularity, especially overseas, and has sold over 200,000 copies worldwide.

The digital light novel's popularity led to a special print release in Japan, subtitled Revolution, and multiple adaptations, including a manga illustrated by Aonoshimo, which began serialization in Comic Yuri Hime in 2020. Inori also began publishing a spin-off webnovel, She's so Cheeky for a Commoner (Heimin no Kuse ni Namaiki an!), which was adapted into a light novel by GL Bunko.

I'm in Love with the Villainess received praise from critics for its frank discussion of LGBTQ themes and identity. It includes same-sex marriage, adaptation, and analysis of the socio-political implications of queerness. In reviews of the light novels, YuriMother noted that the open focus on such topics was not typical of the Yuri genre and noticeably more progressive. If the series indeed gets animated, it will be one of the first Yuri anime to include these themes explicitly.
