Lee snorted and rolled her eyes.
“I wish it came with more perks, but aside from not dying, well… There’s not much more to it, sorry to say.” She gave Andrew’s body a sweeping look, showing her disregard for modesty before walking around the room.
Rummaging through some of the lockers and other various containers, she picked a long sleeved shirt that, aside from smelling like a forgotten storage unit, was pretty decent and the material light and soft. A pair of pants that were only slightly baggy on her and after some more rummaging, she also found clean underwear. It was a blessing and without a second thought, she started shoving as many clean clothes as she could fit into a bag.
“We can still feel pain, still can get hurt, but our bodies will eventually heal. You’re still new so it’ll take some time for it to kick in, but it gets better with time.” Lee knew she was being all too blunt in her delivery, but she rather come off as severe if it helped deliver the point faster and without much room for misinterpretation.
She was far too old to play games.
“You ready? There’s some things I want to grab before we head out.”
“No offense but it doesn’t sound like much fun.“
A pair of jeans would work just fine, and he debated between a white or black shirt. Deciding that they were in the middle of the desert and that he didn’t want to die of heatstroke -or go through whatever unpleasant alternative-, he slipped the white one over his head.
It was a bit snug, but he couldn’t be a choosing beggar when the resources were limited. Then, socks and a pair of heavy duty boots completed his outfit. The camo jacket was more a precaution to protect his arms from sunburn, but no one knew where they would be once night fell.
“How do I look?“ He asked Lee, the same smirk on his lips telling her he knew it didn’t matter. “The beard is a bit long, I suppose? But didn’t have a chance to shave in two hundred years.“
Maybe Lee would be unimpressed with him. He had spent two centuries in that vault, almost forgotten how it felt to be alive. Immortality sounded like a long time to sulk, but there was absolutely no urgency on him to start straight ahead.
There were still so many questions to be asked and answers to be found. He would take a lighthearted moment or two to feel, and later on Lee could berate him for his foolishness. Still, Andrew wasn’t useless, wasn’t completely lost in an unknown world; not now that he had a destination in mind.
“You know where everything left is, so...“
With a hand gesture, he moved aside for Lee to take the lead. It was hard to tell if at some point the woman would actually rest, but if he remembered correctly, a minute or two in the shade were plenty of rest in her military days.
