Hey everyone. There's a new youtube feature that rolled out just yesterday that's raising some privacy concerns.
People in the U.S., U.K., Brazil, and Singapore can now share videos and chat with friends directly within the YouTube app. The update bring
This post talks about a new DM feature in youtube. What it fails to mention is that as part of this new feature is that when you send someone a link to a video, and they open it in the youtube app, they will see who sent them the link. Specifically, your channel name.
If your google account name is your real name, so is your channel name by default.
This means the new default behavior is that everyone you send a youtube link to will see your full name if they open it in the mobile app.
To turn this off:
Go to your youtube app settings
Go to Privacy
Turn off "Channel visibility for shared links"
Trimming the source id (the stuff after the '?' in links) will also prevent this from happening.

ohhhh shit. target is recalling their up & up baby wipes (fragrance free & fresh cucumber scented) because they're contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli, multiple people are reporting discoloration & infections. i just got a call about it cuz i had purchased those but i've already gone through them 😅 so no refund for me. but im fine. if you have these they're saying you need to immediately stop using them and bring them back to target for a full refund. this bacteria can cause life threatening infections in children/infants and people with compromises immune systems (ESPECIALLY cystic fibrosis!!) and i know lots of other chronically ill people follow me!!!!
Hold on i should've been more specific.
First: THIS RECALL IS NOT STATE SPECIFIC. IT IS NATIONWIDE.
here are the specific products and dates:

Once you become familiar with agroecology it becomes so so so infuriating how agriculture is being done the overwhelming majority of the time.
Like. Hey. Genetic diversity is good, that way your crops are less likely to be completely fulminated by disease in one clean cut. Like. Hey. Agrotoxins are bad not just because they poison people and groundwater and kill non target species in droves but because they also fuck the plant's nutrition over. Like. Hey. Monocultures are bad. Full stop. Either rotate your shit properly or arrange a stratified consortium with plants that agree with each other.
Mulch is your truest and most stalwart friend. Have faith in her.
I now realise I'm sounding like that one XKCD comic with the geologists and quartz.
Also for FUCK sake adapt your varieties TO the local climate, NOT the other way around. Semideserts aren't bad. They're arable. Just learn how the ecosystem works and plant things that can bear it, mimicking its structure. Drought is relative. Cacti are your friends. They are living water reservoirs.
"Weeds" are your friends. They're pioneers. Soil UN-fuckers. By identifying what species you can VERY reliably guess the acidity, rain frequency, fertility, and compactness of the soil, among other things. Also those things are UNDERSTUDIED. COME ON. THEY HAVE POTENTIAL.
And sometimes? The only reason invasive species get the upper hand is because the soil is WAY too fucked for the natives. You can actually use this to your advantage. Plant what grows, return the organic matter to the bloody soil, and once it's UN-fucked enough, THEN you plant more demanding natives.
Quick tutorial with beetle! (Paraphrasing Ana Primavesi) - How to create HELLHOLES. 1 - Get rid of ALL the organic matter. No plants. No mulch. Nothing. 2 - Make sure the wind can blow freely. Dry wind will suck up moisture from the earth like NOTHING else. 3 - If possible, water frequently. This will make clay seep down and create a hard-pan + salinate the soil. Now do the exact opposite. Boom.
(Exclusive to the tropics) DONNNNNNN'T FUCKING TILL THE SOIL. DON'T. As SOON as it rains the soil will get even more fucked than before. DO NOT FUCKING CALCIFY THE SOIL. YES ALUMINIUM IS TOXIC. IT IS ALSO AN ESSENTIAL AGGREGATE. USE ORGANIC MATTER. COVER it. Mulch. Mulch. Mulch. Green manure. Cover cropping. Mulch. Insulate it. Insulate it. INSULATE IT.
Diseases and pests are your FRIENDS. Let me explain. They only happen when something's wrong. Nutrient deficiencies, most usually. Sometimes it's because they're in an agroecosystem not appropriate to the species/aren't paired with the right plants. Identifying what causes what is KEY to stopping it FAR more thoroughly than any pesticide could. They are not the disease. They are a symptom.
Sometimes there's no grand cause. Sometimes it might just be because a pipe burst on your property or something.
STRATA. Plants like growing in "floors". In each other's shade. Even Pliny the Elder figured it out when looking at how things were grown in Carthage.
Why am I going on and on and on and on and on about the mulch Ad Mother Fucking Nihilum? One - aforementioned point. Insulation. Two - help your other friends, the soil critters. Bacteria, fungi, and microfauna WILL make your soil As Soily As Soil Can Be! FEED THEM. FEED THEM. FEED THEM. FEED THEM. E S P E C I A L L Y down here in the tropics where decomposition and nutrient recycling is going on at Mach Yes.

Younger people, one thing I want you to understand about Millenials is that, overall, our parents taught their daughters to aim for careers and employment, but they didn't teach their sons to keep house. This causes a whole lot of Situations.
My brothers are my half-brothers; they spent summers and some holidays with us. I love my brothers.
Their mother picked up after them. They were not required to take plates the kitchen or do the dishes or anything like that.
My mother, who would tell you she is for equality, came home one day, sighed at the mess of dirty dishes scattered about, and said, "Gayle, help me pick up."
"Those aren't my dishes," I said. "I picked up my dishes."
My mother sighed again. "Just help me pick up."
"No," I said again. "I didn't make that fucking mess."
She never approached my brothers and said, "Boys, in this house, you take your dishes to the kitchen." She did not tell our dad, "Hey, tell the boys they need to pick up after themselves."
It was, "Gayle, pick up the dishes."
And when I refused because it was not my fucking mess, I got lectured about being difficult.
See also: My brothers--in a classic dick-move of all siblings--figured out they could pop the lock on the bathroom door and throw it open, and I would freak out because I was in the shower and trying to get five fucking minutes of peace.
Guess who got yelled at for being "unreasonable"? Not the boys. Because a lot of moms of millennial boys still said shit like "boys will be boys" when they should have said "Boys, if you got body-slammed on the concrete, I'm not taking you to the hospital."
It was similar for Xers. I spent a lot of time in my 20's teaching romantic partners and friends basic household skills and having to be really hard ass about them carrying their weight.
It is stupid and infuriating and I hate that the "Boy Mom" trend is setting yet another generation up for unfairness and domestic strife.
Yep.
One time when I was in high school, my mum came home w/ groceries. She needed help bringing all of them in. Did she ask my brother who was already outside playing basketball? No. Did she ask her husband who was sitting on his ass watching TV in the living room? Nope. She walked past both of them, through the house, and into my room where I was doing homework and yelled at me for not immediately coming out to help her.
I have been told that I am "the last of the millennials" or that I'm a "gen zer" or that I'm "on the cusp" by so many different people that I am 100% convinced this is not a generational problem. It is a societal problem. And millennial parents are not immune to raising their kids this way just bc they're younger than x'ers and boomers. Same goes for gen z'ers and every generation after us so long as misogyny remains the bedrock of society that it is.

I CLAIM THE ABUNDANCE THAT IS COMING TO ME NOW 🌈🙏💖✨ *falls asleep and dreams of a skeletal figure atop a black horse carrying iron scales*
I wish I could make white people(and not just white Americans) understand how diverse the pre-columbian Americas were. The history, religion, culture, politics was at least as complex as Europe's. There was the full gamut of religions, from monotheists to animists to ancestral religions. There were city building empires, village farmers, nomadic traders, and so many other ways to live. This is all just based on what we know, the fragments left behind and the stories of survivors of an apocalyptic plague. All this before the most extended campaign of genocide in history was waged in an attempt to wipe out those survivors.
Over 500 years spent trying to cut down a whole trunk of human culture.
Do you understand how much poorer our whole species is because of it? Can you imagine where art, religion, and science would be if we still had these vast bodies of knowledge? The stain of the colonial project will never be fully washed clean. We owe more than just the land to those we stole from. We owe them a whole future, a future that could have been brighter for all of us. If only greed and fear weren't allowed to rule this land.
