so. I'm a lesbian. and I love listening to female idol duets of poppy, happy tunes, because i can imagine them as lovers, singing love songs together, that I don't normally get to see. candy scar is just the type of song I would love.... if it didn't have the male fans in the backing vocals. when I first heard the guys in the background, I was legit like "gross I don't want to hear the men singing. can we get a version without the guys?"

but after thinking on it for five seconds I realized, no, removing the guys would be against the point of the whole series. removing the male voices would just be telling me a sweet lie that "of course these girls are in love and they're singing because they love each other and are happy together. there's no outside force exploiting them. you, listener, aren't exploiting them, you're different from the rest."

Just because I'm a girl who loves girls doesn't mean I'm exempt from dehumanizing them. Yes, my love for seeing MiziSua perform may be different from men in the crowd, but I'm not an exception from the other fans. Wanting to strip away the things that make me feel icky is itself dehumanizing to Mizi and Sua, who are people with experiences that aren't happy fluffy pop songs: they're suffering and we shouldn't try to paint over that.
