moonroot’s 10 year anniversary
We’ve been laying low for a while, but 2020 was a wild year, and it’s coming up on our 10 year anniversary. We have a surprise in store. Stay tuned ~
taking a break
dear friends,
since our beginnings in 2011, moonroot has continued to grow as an evolving experiment in building loving, radical spaces for womxn, trans, and genderqueer folks of asian and pacific islander descent. moonroot has been a deeply transformative space for all of us and we are thankful to all of you who have been on this journey with us; who have shared your love, pain and joy with us; who have been courageously vulnerable with us so that together, we could resist isolation and invisibility. we’re grateful to be in community with you all, whether it be in-person or through our zines.
one of the beautiful parts of moonroot culture has been that it is rooted in growing self- and collective love and part of that means making the space to grow, change, and transform with the ebb and flow of life and community. in the spirit of transparency and intentionality, we wanted to let you know that we’ve collectively decided to take an indefinite hiatus from moonroot, to make space for & to adapt to the continued growth and shifts in our lives.
moonroot’s print zines will still be available through Brown Recluse Zine Distro while the remaining copies last, and the digital zines will always be available online through issuu.
our hope is for folx who have supported and felt supported by moonroot to continue to connect with, support, and create radical qtpoc & woc zines, distros, collectives, and individuals. here are some places to start.
with love and gratitude,
MOONROOT // sine, mina, linda, jess, claudia, amy 6.6.2016

Hello, tumblr! This is a submissions call for a zine in the works that is focusing on Pacific Islanders! So, to all you creative Pasifika babes, send in your art work, essays, stories, photography, and whatever you have available to our publication!
As of right now there is no theme, but the focus of this zine will be, to quote one of our organizers, is "To bring focus to Pacific Islanders as Indigenous peoples and our plight to reclaim our languages, foods, islands, and ancestors while also bringing awareness to our intersectional identities and how we not only deal with racism but transphobia, homophobia, classism, sexism, and any other oppression that contributes to our own experiences and/or ties into our experiences as Pacific Islanders." so please send in anything and everything you have and spread the word so we can have an awesome first issue!
THE DEADLINE DATE FOR THIS CYCLE OF ZINE SUBMISSIONS IS FEBRUARY 17. Send in your work as soon as possible to: [email protected] with subject line ‘Pacific Island Zine Submission’

Anya is live and ready to show you everything. Watch her strip, dance, and perform exclusive shows just for you. Interact in real-time and make your fantasies come true.

"POC Zine-Making and Self-Preservation" Workshop with MOONROOT and Brown & Proud Press I <3 Print Media and Transformative Arts Tracks Allied Media Conference, Detroit, June 21, 2014.
A week delay but it’s done! Here are some photos from the workshop and a link to the collectively made zine that everyone snapped on!! Hope everyone learned a few things about putting together a zine and the importance of having our own intentional spaces/documenting our stories as QTPOC. We are honored to have had that opportunity to share space with ya’ll and to hear your words of struggles, strength and healing.

Bay Area people, come to my reading today!
LA ZINE FEST ZINE (meta) by browntourage :P
The LA zine fest got me missing the feeling of putting pen to paper. The DIY aspect is so liberating- you can print whatever you want however you want! Whether the pages are filled with photos, doodles, collages, opinions, comics, poetry, or manifestos, zines provide a freeform field for people of all backgrounds to express themselves and find people who relate.
Flocks of people gathered in the Helms Bakery district Sunday to appreciate over a hundred zine stalls. With such a diversity of styles and content, I tried to check up on women/poc run zines, and ended up taking style pics because i couldn’t not. I was so overstimulated by beauty the event itself merited a zine of its own. Here’s my online attempt.

Alok Vaid-Menon is a South Asian artivist who has performed & organized with queer movements around the world. They are committed to building radical queer movements and bodies that resist white supremacy and imperialism and like making art that thinks about these, and other what ifs. Janani Balasubramanian is a South Asian literary and performance artist based in Brooklyn. Their work deals broadly with empire, desire, microflora, ancestry, apocalypse, and the Future.
