New music video out by Sister Mantos!
Santos explains: “The video celebrates the beauty of the brown body, and is a montage of hair, skin, femme energy and hallucinogenic floral bursts of fecundity. In our socio-cultural moment, where white supremacy is grasping even more power and racists are having too much damn time on the screen, this video stands as a visual poem of resistance. It is a love letter to all the brown bodies living on this planet, a reminder of their beauty and their power.” - Spark Mag
This Ain’t A Eulogy: A Ritual for Re-Membering
Based on Taja Lindley’s solo healing performance ritual that debuted at La Mama’s SQUIRTS in 2015, “This Ain’t A Eulogy” is drawing parallels between discarded materials and the violent treatment of Black people in the United States. People in the African Diaspora have a long history of repurposing, remixing, and transforming oppressive systems into valuable cultural practices. In this post-Ferguson moment, Lindley is calling on this legacy to imagine how we can recycle the energy of protest, rage, and grief into creating a world where, indeed, Black Lives Matter.
Special thanks to Ellen Maynard of The Fleet NYC (thefleetnyc.com) for her cinematography and creativity.

Went to the closing of a group show I was in at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. Still surreal. A little faith in yourself will go a long way. Im gonna be corny and say just do that thing that ur tryna do because sometimes it just all comes together. Bless

Centering the marginalized with our curated section of the Additivist Cookbook titled, Subalternate Realities. We got our fav artists from various diaspora to consider how additive methodologies of 3d printing, weaving, community could factor into a decolonial future. The full works can be viewed in the very center of the The 3D Additivist Cookbook!* [free downloadable 3Dpdf of really extraordinary works and thoughts]
OUR STATEMENT: Design does not exist in a vacuum. A designer conceptualizes solutions for a specific time, place, and, most importantly, lifestyle. Subalternate Realities focuses on post- colonial, non-western, queer, and/or feminist frameworks of additivist production. With the goal of centering marginalized lifestyles, Browntourage prompted artists from radical backgrounds to take on the role of industrial designer and imagine how a specific communities outside of the mainstream would function within a specific speculative future. Each artist designed an artifact that the community would use in said future. Presented through archival media from the future world itself, the final works featured in Subalternate Realities raise a wide array of issues regarding accessibility, sustainability, pleasure, and biopolitics. By tapping into the subaltern consciousness to layer new realities, we hope to manifest a ‘history from below’ where #additivism engages the critical imagination.
[ DOWNLOAD THE 3D ADDITIVIST COOKBOOK ]
*#Additivism = additive technologies and activism: a movement concerned with critiquing ‘radical’ new technologies at social, ecological, and global scales. The cookbook is a compilation of imaginative, provocative works that questions whether it’s possible to change the world without also changing ourselves, and what the implications are of taking a position.

huge recommend: Smoke that Travels
I don’t remember how I became fb friends with Kayla Briet, but her talent inspires me so hard. She made this film and the music behind it, its beautiful and important showcase of indigenous culture, specifically her experience and family lineage within the Prairie Band Potawatomi.

Cofounder Hawa (@veryfutureconcepts) coming through with some bomb art direction for the modest brand we are drooling over, Ruh.
Fuck Me or Destroy Me - Aisha Mirza ft. Harnaam Kaur (Music Video as Doc)
Catching up on life and reentering society and coming across this gem in our Facebook inbox!
First off, this title aka the classic drama of the types of attention received when living diaspora life in a visibly brown body, like basically exotified fetishism or fear.
Second off, Aisha’s song is really really nice and powerful in its mix of small details and absolute conviction. We think its very accessible and poetic to take a musical twist on traditional short doc form and I think it worked out well.
Here’s more on their intentions (quoted from Nylon):
In more recent years, Mirza’s work has honed in on the specific experience of being black or brown and queer/trans, and the complicated relationships with body hair that come with these identities. Mirza is “really interested in the mental health impacts of body hair norms, what it means to be hated for such an abundant part of your body”.
... “[Harnaam] can work so hard to reject and restructure societal oppression, and yet still be defined by her otherness. How her extraordinary personhood is built on something that never should have been extraordinary.”
