wait wait wait i get it now too i get why the mystra thing bothers me. i was watching a lindsay ellis video and she describes how ppl mischaracterize women who are with men who experience a great and tragic downfall, and oh my god DUH it's misogyny. of course. how did i not see it before???? it feels so obvious.

Fashion & Design in the BioShock Series (Part One)

I’m just a huge defender of literature and the arts. I’ve been trying to work on a presentation for my college where I discuss art and its clear connection to our mental health. I don’t mind sharing the paper I wrote because it’s something I really wanna share with ppl cus I think it would help. Art is like the thing that clears the stopper up inside us and let’s us get out difficult emotions, as well as managing daily stress. There’s so much benefit to making and viewing art, and the thing is you don’t even have to be a master just making it at all is good for you.

you know, another thing about that Mystra post I should also consider is ppl who are younger probably just bring the media down to their level of maturity and understanding because how else would they connect with it? It’s just a lot of ppl don’t outgrow it they apply that same type of criticism to media as they get older, never learning that more nuanced style of reading and interpreting. I honestly feel there’s a connection between our poor education in US, anti-intellectualism, & the shortening of attention spans that leads to a generation of ppl who won’t be able to interpret deeper meanings to the technical aspects and traditions of writing and storytelling. This type of understanding is a skill that has to be taught to ppl and I don’t think that’s happening for most if it ever even was.
