This has become one of those lines that I'm now happy to lose friends over, whether they identify themselves as "left" or "right": if you are gleefully celebrating the deaths of your fellow human beings simply for voting differently to you or caring about issues you take the opposite stance on, you yourself have become the monster, and the enemy of all humanity, regardless of whatever those within your belief bubble tell you when egging you on.

The concept also aligns with research on intermittent reinforcement and with attachment theory, where inconsistent availability can intensify preoccupation, especially in people with anxious attachment styles. It’s not love itself that creates the fixation; it’s the uncertainty surrounding the relationship
