if youre in the US (especially the northeast + michigan) i would avoid bagged salads/greens and generally wash your produce very thoroughly unless you want the diarrhea parasite
Michigan is experiencing its largest outbreak of a parasitic infection that causes severe diarrhea. Nearly 1,000 people have been diagnosed
this is not life-threatening, but also who wants weeks of diarrhea and a fucking parasite in them lol. if you suspect you've already had this and it's passed, i would see a doctor. you might need an antiparasitic anyway. if you're actively sick, see a doctor and they might be able to prescribe medication to help you get over it faster.
try to avoid eating raw vegetables, scrub fruit with a produce brush and rinse thoroughly with water. again, don't bother with premade greens or bagged salads. if you buy lettuce, remove the outer 2-3 layers of leaves.
there are UNVERIFIED rumors that the greens have been linked to a company that sources to taco bell. some locations have been actively pulling fresh ingredients like lettuce, avocado, and pico de gallo to mitigate the threat, so i would avoid any products from them just in case. considering how vast supply chains are, i'd be wary of any fast food greens in general for now.
also note this is a PARASITIC infection. most diarrhea-causing pathogens you expect to contaminate your greens are bacteria (e.g. e. coli and salmonella), which are a different domain of organism altogether. cyclospora is a protozoan, which is bigger and more complicated than a bacteria (for reference, malaria is also caused by a protozoan). bacterial diarrhea can be dangerous, but you might also expect to weather it and survive unscathed. do NOT fuck with PARASITIC contamination. you should be scared of this one!
Another note: YOU CAN'T WASH IT OFF!
Only high temperatures will kill cyclospora. It resides in what is like a shell, which is highly resistant to water and most cleaning chemicals. The substance it uses to cling to food is so strong we don't even fully know what its limits are. It may be best to avoid fruits and veggies you can't cook. Scrubbing only works if done hard enough and on foods with no hiding places (Like cucumbers and grapes). Peeling the skin off is your best bet at avoiding it however, scrubbing is not guaranteed.
Thank you OP for posting! Usually washing does work on most sicknesses, just not this one.
Here’s an update (7/10/26) with tips on what foods to buy and how to manage them.
Health experts advise washing hands and produce amid a significant outbreak of a parasitic infection in Michigan, affecting more than 1,500

Michigander here. This shit can take weeks to show up and last for months if untreated! If you have the symptoms, get tested so you can go on antibiotics asap! I know people with it and it is brutal. As someone with a severe GI condition, im eating canned veggies and cooking everything, period. If you are disabled in a similar way, fresh and frozen produce is a no until they can figure out the source. It isnt life threatening until you get severely dehydrated from the shit-out-your-liquids-bug and the heat index is near the 100°F and you take medication which make the body less heat resistant(ssri's, adhd meds, anti psychotics, snri's, heart medications, diuretics, ace inhibitors, antihistamines, etc).

Also, i think it is worth noting that I have personally seen a drop in prices of fresh produce atm because of this.

Notes on the Bandcamp post:
Someone pointed out that article's from 2023, and that's my mistake! Here is one that describes better where we are today.
Bandcamp engineering layoffs renew fears over Songtradr ownership, artist support and the future of direct-to-fan music.
So.
Downloads are still available as of time of writing. If you have music you want to keep, maybe go download it.
If your favorites sell music directly, go buy it there.
Do NOT go yell at musicians for being on Bandcamp. Where, one day after this broke, do you expect them to go? Where else can we get DRM-free files?
If the new owners keep Bandcamp Friday and DRM-free downloads, I will keep buying music from them.
Think of it this way: who are we trying to help? Musicians, right?
It won't help musicians to boycott Bandcamp and I have not (as of this writing) seen a call for it that's actually from a musician.
It really won't help musicians to yell at them about being on Bandcamp.
Next Bandcamp Friday I'm going to go buy albums I'd miss if they disappeared.
(And no. I am not a fan of the new ownership. I don't have a better alternative either.)
Okay this is the recent news.
There is still no new ownership, though. An engineer just posted that he and most of his colleagues were laid off, which speaks to possible backend issues for the platform which could lead to other things in the future. IDK that there's much that can be drawn from this other than boy I really hope that union can finally get off the ground.

Hey, Bandcamp users. You have probably already heard, but Bandcamp was bought by a music licensing firm, and laid off half its staff "as a cost cutting measure."
I will be downloading everything I purchased from Bandcamp and keeping an eye on it.
In a significant shift of ownership, Bandcamp, the renowned digital music marketplace, has officially transitioned from its previous owner,

“but shrouded black figures are scary!” not when ur muslim. its the funniest fucking thing. this is labeled on pinterest under shit like “classic horror” “scary phone wallpaper”
but that LITERALLY just looks like a niqabi or someone in a jilbab. Like Look at this pic of me (from a self photoshoot, now w/o the dramatic lighting and dark background)
or this pic of me
or this pic of me
like its so funny i can’t be scared of shrouded figures it just looks like me.
if i saw this i would just be like “Assalam alaikum sister, dope sword you got there”
I mean I think a part of the ‘scary background’ bit is the thing where the individual in question is staring directly at the viewer from a foggy pond in a dense forest. And also the literal burning halo
sounds like a normal Friday night. if a sister wants to go on a walk in the evening who am i to stop her. if she has a burning halo that’s the will of god.
Overkilling the Nemesis
😟😳😳😳
#idk what this means or if i do this but ig i'll just hold my phone with my pinky stuck out from now on??
Good question, also no that won’t help.
shitty MS Paint 3 minutes doodle, nto entirely accurate: When you have your pinky hooked on the “bottom” edge of the phone for the extra security so it doesn’t slide out of your hand that easily, you’re wreaking damage on your hand, since the pinky is extremely askew from it’s resting position. You might have noticed that when you hold your phone like that for long time it begins to hurt, like when you are gripping a pen too tightly for example.
Green lines - the fingers are going their natural way. Red line - the pinky is way off, that’s bad.
Me: Oh, good thing I never-
Me, looking down at hand: By talos this can't be happening
