I've been playing a lot of Muse Dash this year and I wanted to draw Marija! I like that in a lot of the loading screen art she's given lots of different outfits, so I wanted to design an outfit for her too.
I'm super happy with this. I haven't done an icon in a long time and I'm normally not too great at them. I also decided to move my character's bangs to the side a bit so her left eye is more exposed. I love drawing eyes, and also I think it makes her a bit more expressive.
I have so many ideas in my brain but I don't have time to put them to paper because of school. I hope that when the semester is over they don't all leave my brain and I don't lose my inspiration. More importantly I don't want to lose my motivation to draw either.

I have to read a lot of essays and academic papers about art, specifically 18th century art, for an art history class this semester. This unit I had to read a lot of really old art discourse, and I feel so chronically online for this, but a lot of it reminded me of things I would see when I was significantly more invested in Twitter art discourse. On one hand, I felt kind of relieved that other, far smarter and educated, people thought these issues were important too, but on the other hand, I felt a sense of dread when I realized that the fact that people have been arguing about the same things for literal centuries, means that discourse will never be solved.
For most of the time I spent on Twitter, I got so deep into looking at discourse for a few reasons. Two of the main ones being: I thought that issues about how art is made and perceived were immediately important and needed to be "solved" lest the world like... idk explode or something? Like if I, Moona Stargazer, did not get to the bottom of whether or not drawings of sexy anime women were detrimental to society at the age of 15, how in the world would the world go on? Ridiculous right? The other being, I believed that my opinions about art colored my worth as a person, and if I didn't figure out what the right opinion was, or didn't have the right opinion, I must be dumber or worth less as a person. Also a ridiculous thought looking back.
I remember being so scared I would accidentally have the wrong opinion and get jumped and "ratioed." I hated the idea of upsetting and disagreeing with potentially hundreds to thousands of people. Even if they couldn't hurt me physically, I knew the mental damage would be insane. And I was probably right, the mental damage of getting dog piled online would have destroyed my younger self. It would likely destroy my present self too. But just likely. I've only gotten a handful of negative comments online, mainly because I don't post much and even when I do, I don't get that much attention. Honestly looking back, I don't think I deserved the attention I wanted anyway. I don't think I deserve it now either.
But back to discourse. What I needed to understand, and what I still need to truly accept internally, is that because the variety of people I value so much exists, a wide variety of opinion will also always exist. Different people with different pasts and experiences will always exist and try to coexist, and there's nothing I could or can do about it. There's nothing I should do about it, really. I like that different people can have a different view of the world than me most of the time, but I get upset when I'm faced with a worldview and opinions totally different than mine. Some of the people I disagree with would probably say the same thing too. It doesn't matter how many hours I spend gathering information and weighing different opinions, on most topics, there will never be a single concrete answer. And that's okay!
Twitter discourse taught me that you should have concrete, black and white views on just about every little thing, and if you don't, you're evil and awful and you don't deserve to see the light of day. I'm so happy I've had friends and grass to touch that showed me I don't have to think like that, and that it's probably better that I don't. I don't have to care about everything, and it's probably better that I don't. I don't have to care that other people have different opinions than me, and it's better that I don't.

Gosh I hate grind culture. My little sister just started medical school and all of her orientation leaders are like “you absolutely cannot have a life WHATsoever you WILL have to give up EVERYTHING besides this program say GOODBYE to your hobbies and relationships” and now she’s calling me feeling guilty for running and going to the grocery store and that’s just WRONG! And that is exactly what I was told starting law school as well, and rejecting that mentality was the best thing I ever did but it was so hard not to buy into. Anyway if any of you are in an intense academic program PLEASE take time to sleep and eat and exercise and maintain your relationships and keep up your hobbies! you are not a robot who exists solely to study and I promise that living a life and staying physically and mentally healthy is not going to make you fail
Workaholism is not just a “millennial quirk”, it’s a very real psychological problem that should not be normalized and praised. Diligence and self-realization? Awesome!!! Working so much you forget to eat, sleep and socialize? Not okay under any circumstances.
