While I do enjoy the idea of Bilbo knowing a lot about plants and flowers, which allows Thorin to play into that by gifting Bilbo bouquets of flowers, all with various meanings, to tell Bilbo something without saying it.
I also enjoy the idea that Bilbo knows NOTHING about plants, but Thorin assumes he does, so he offers Bilbo various bouquets in hopes that Bilbo will catch his hints but never does.
Imagine Bilbo being gifted a bouquet, and Thorin stands there waiting for some kind of response other than thank you, and Bilbo just awkwardly stands there, confused.

About an AU story setting where Bilbo is the king’s maid.
Bilbo went to the Royal Kitchen of Erebor to apply for a position as a pastry chef. However, the dwarf in charge of hiring, seeing that he had no beard, mistakenly assumed he was a woman and ended up assigning him to a maid’s role. Before the hobbit could explain, he unexpectedly started his new job as a maid. Then one day, he was called to deliver some royal pastries to a room. The slightly gluttonous Bilbo ended up eating the pastries that were meant for the king. And so began a dramatic, over-the-top master-servant romantic comedy.
