Besides all the domestic work palicoes do within the guild, another reason why hunters are partnered up with their furry friends on the field is because hunting is a stressful job. Hunters are on the clock 24/7, only really stop working to eat, sometimes sleep, and pick up equipment at the smithy, and they regularly face off against huge, angry monsters with terrifying abilities in battle. Having their cute-faced kitties around all the time and being able to be affectionate towards them helps the hunters feel more relaxed and keeps morale up.
