I've got a playlist of 112 (and perhaps counting) songs that I would want to play for/dedicate to Rogue, or just that make me think of her. The first one on that list is "To Make You Feel My Love" by Billy Joel. It makes me think of this scene from the immediate aftermath of the X-Cutioner's Song crossover event, which was the first crossover I read.
Rogue is recovering from a fight where she was temporarily blinded, and sitting up on the rooftop feeling sorry for herself. Of course Gambit comes along to remind her that she's supposed to be in bed. They have a conversation about how she wants to have someone to comfort her, run his fingers through her hair, and tell her everything will be all right. But of course, at this point in her history, she has no control over her powers and can't let anyone get that close, even if she wanted to.
This just gets me right in the feel-for-yous. I was a teenager at this time, just 16 years old, and I really wanted to be there for her. I wanted to have a convenient immunity to her powers so could I hold her, comfort her, run my fingers through her hair, and pet her and love her and call her Rogue tell her everything would be all right. And that even if it wasn't all right, I'd be there with her for the shitty parts.
To me, that's what that Billy Joel song is all about. When you're sad, lonely, and feeling like the world is against you, I'll do anything to make you feel loved. And that's why it's on my playlist.
Please, for the love of Rogue, tag your spoiler posts
Even if it's just memes made from scenes, please tag X-Men 97 Season 2 content as spoilers. I don't want any hints about what happens until I've watched the whole thing, and I'm planning to wait until the whole season is available before I start watching.
I don't like this. Rogue as a Cyberpunk corpo? With black hair? Ew, no thanks.
Take Good Care of your Teeth, Kids
I spent two hours and $1500 at the dentist's office today getting my old bridge removed, having some decay cleaned up, and getting a new temporary bridge. If I had a time machine, I would go back to my teenage self and smack him with a sack of tooth brushes.
And since it also came to mind, does the invulnerability Rogue got from Carol Danvers extend to her nails, hair, and teeth? Does that mean she'll never have cavities, no matter how much sugar she eats? I'd imagine she still brushes her teeth and goes to the dentist for a proper cleaning, since she'd still get bad breath if she let things go. But every time she goes to a new dentist she has a conversation like this...
Rogue: You need to be careful when you're working on me. Dentist: You don't make a living putting your fingers in other people's mouths without learning how to not get bitten. Rogue: That ain't what I meant. Look, doc; I'm a mutant, and my particular mutation means that you could get hurt if you touch my bare skin with yours. I know you're gonna wear gloves, but make sure all your assistants and such know not to touch me. Not my lips, not my cheek, not my tongue. I don't know about my teeth. Dentist: Thanks for the warning, but I don't think it'll be a problem. Now, open wide...

On a scale of 1 to 10, how good of a cook is Rogue?
1) Can't boil water without an accident.
2) Can microwave leftovers and make toast.
3) Can bake pre-made dinners without burning them.
4) Heats up canned soup on the stove instead of in the microwave.
5) Can follow the instructions on a box of mac n' cheese.
6) Can follow a recipe and it usually works out.
7) Can make substitutions in a recipe as needed and it still comes out good.
8) Makes her own recipes and could be a professional chef.
9) Should really have her own cooking show, but being an X-Man interferes with t
10) Iron Chef Rogue has a nice ring to it.
I Just Want to Fly
A couple years ago I wrote a self-insert fanfic, where Rogue came from 1994 in her world to 2024 in our world and crash landed in my back yard. And in the story I am, of course, conveniently immune to her powers and that gets my foot in the door for a romantic relationship.
I mention it now because in that story I have her take me up into the sky to get a better look at the fireworks displays happening on Independence Day. (This leads to her being caught on camera and the world finding out about her.) Tonight, as I stood at the end of my driveway watching the fireworks like I do every year, I thought of that story and how we would probably make that an annual thing.
A while ago I made a post talking about how Diablo 4 has a Rogue class and they have auburn and white for hair color options, but the colors are in the wrong order.
For season 14, I've rolled up a Rogue and... well, here she is.
I've named her eugoR and given her the "Echoing Rogue" title, and attempted to use the limited transmog options to emulate Rogue's outfit with the orange tunic over a body suit.
As a reminder, please tag discussion about the new season of X-Men 97 with spoilers. I'm waiting until the whole thing is available before I watch it so I can go at my own pace, and I'd imagine I'm not the only one.
Linguistics for Fun and... well, Fun. No Profit to be Had Here
People use different words to describe carbonated non-alcoholic beverages. Soda, pop, soda pop, and (most relevant to this post) Coke. Yes, as I understand it, many people in the southern US refer to any flavor of fizzy drink as Coke, whether it's cola, root beer, lemon-lime, whatever.
So being from Mississippi, does Rogue say Coke for all sodas or has she lived in New York and other areas long enough to pick up a different word? I'm guessing if she ever talked about it in the comics they wouldn't be able to use the word Coke without some sort of brand deal in place, so that may not necessarily be the best evidence.

Like Water off a Duck's Back, if that Water is Actually Molasses
Yesterday on Discord (see previous post regarding Gambit in video games) I had someone get on my back about my Rogue obsession. This is a different Discord and a different person than another post from recent days.
That's an animated GIF, where he also says "Stop it." Anyway, I wish I could be all "Haters gonna hate" and just ignore it, but this shit hurts. I've blocked this person in the past, then removed the block for a while after I had a chance to cool off, but I'm thinking I may just keep them blocked permanently at this point.
Also, it's closer to 30 years and not 40. 40 years would've put me in my Voltron years, I think. Or maybe Thundercats. Certainly well before I'd heard about Rogue. Back in my school days, circa 1988, I had people tease and bully me about the characters I was obsessed with, so I got to a point where I was more careful who I would talk to about them. I felt comfortable enough on these Discords to let that freak flag fly, as it were, but then this shit happens.
I think one of the best parts about my fantasy coming true (Rogue comes to our world from the comics circa 1994, I'm conveniently immune to her powers, and we become a couple) would be showing the haters on Discord that they can fuck right off with that bullshit. Of course, they'd probably accuse me of paying someone to dress up, or of using AI to generate the image/video.
I think I'm about to start posting more of my thoughts and musings about Rogue to Tumblr since the people in my Discords don't seem to appreciate me. Though of course I expect Romy and/or Rogueneto shippers to get on my case about it too. I'll try to keep the Gambit hate at reasonable levels, but I can't make any promises.
Vicarious Doesn't Always Work
Someone on a Discord shared a video of some guy talking about other X-Men characters he'd like to see in the upcoming Wolverine game that Insomniac is producing, and really about 80% of the video was him saying how cool it would be to have Gambit in the cast.
It got me thinking that yeah, a Gambit-centric game could work quite well in the style of Insomniac's Spider-Man games, with a bit of thievery for the stealth missions and such. And even I have to admit that using Remy's skillset to fight bad guys would be pretty fun.
But then I got to thinking that they'd probably have Rogue in the game and feature their relationship as a romantic subplot. Which normally I'd be all for putting Rogue in more games, but when I thought about it I realized that romancing Rogue while playing as Gambit wouldn't work. I'd be too busy seething with jealous rage to enjoy it vicariously.
Loaded up Connections today and these words just happened to be next to each other.
It must be a sign! Even if my so-called friends on Discord don't approve, Connections is there for me.
Earlier today I was reminded of the time Marvel argued that mutants aren't human therefore the X-Men action figures should be taxed at a lower rate. The video I saw about it implied that this established legal precedent that mutants aren't human.
What would this mean for Rogue or any of the other X-Men if they were somehow transported to our world? Would they have no more rights than pets and other animals, or am I reading too much into this?
One of the shitty things about the people on my Discords getting after me for obsessing about Rogue is that I have nowhere else to share things like this.
Rogue does the "Catapult Nightmare" trope, where she wakes up with a gasp and maybe sits up in bed.
Me: "What's wrong, sweetheart?" Rogue: "I just had a dream that I was married to Remy." Me: "Wow, that sounds like a rough one. Do you want to talk about it?" Rogue: "Not really. It's fading already, but I could use some cuddles." Me: "Anytime you want."
And we cuddle together and go back to sleep.

I Love Rogue. Sometimes that Sucks
Earlier today in one of the Discord servers I'm on, I mentioned a poll that I saw over here asking if Rogue is an Alpha, Beta, or Omega. I thought about it along the lines of "Well she's powerful, but not world-endingly so, unless she grabs the powers of someone who is. So maybe put her at an Alpha mutant." Then I saw the Omegaverse tag on the poll and realized... that's not what they were asking at all.
I mentioned this on Discord, that got us talking about Rogue and how her power levels have fluctuated over the years, much of which I've missed because I stopped buying comics back in 1997 around the time of Operation Zero Tolerance. The conversation lasted about a half hour, then about seven hours later someone else came in and picked up the thread, so we talked about her some more. That lasted another hour and a half or so, and then after another four hours of silence someone pipes up and tells us to find something else to talk about that isn't Rogue.
Now to be fair, I have been known to go on and on about how much I love Rogue. And to repeat a bit I stole from Parks and Rec, when I say "I love Rogue" I'm afraid what you hear is "Rogue is my favorite character, she's just so amazing." What I say is "I love Rogue." So yeah, my obsession can get out of hand. But still...
And then I think they blocked me.
Self-shippers have it kind of rough. It's the rarest of rare pairs, we can count on one hand (if not one finger) the number of people who ship it. And I tend to get jealous. I feel like I have no one I can talk to about it because most (sane) people are shipping her with Gambit or Magneto, and whenever I see her with either of them I get angry. You can imagine how thrilled I was to learn they tied the knot in the comics a few years ago.
Monsoon is a character I created for the Marvel Superheroes paper-and-dice system that TSR produced way back when, expressly to represent myself in the Marvel setting and for me to vicariously have a relationship with Rogue. I've used that handle in games and online spaces for decades now My profile picture is a version of Monsoon that I created in City of Heroes, and this Discord server is full of people from that game's community. So someone over there telling me to not talk about Rogue feels like an extra slap in the face. I thought we were friends.
