I’m making this post on the behalf of Hamza and his family, who are currently suffering in Gaza.

In Gaza, people’s incomes have been severely impacted for the past three years. Please consider helping my friend Hamza and his family — which includes several children— afford food and proper medical care as prices continue to be high and unstable.

The news is heavy, and the anxiety is beyond what we can handle. But the hardest part of all… is an innocent child who heard the news and cried, asking me: “Why is this happening to us while we are innocent? Were we born here only to die?”

During the war, the sounds of explosions and drones and fighter jets were so loud my dad could feel their vibrations. The strikes kept getting closer and closer until we lost our house there and had to move in with relatives in Hadath. We found and rented a place there and now we lost our house there. My family is full of life even though we’ve been through everything: my mom is crippled, and my dad is deaf, and I have 3 sisters. I’ve been struggling to support them all through this, and in Beirut its almost impossible to rent a place without paying huge deposits and 3-6 months to be able to rent.

Making this fundraiser is harder to me than when we had to move, so please help me find a place where we can stay."

I don’t know how anyone can claim to be a feminist and care about gender-based violence, only to exclude transgender women. And this isn’t a case where “it’s Brazil’s problem, not ours;” violence and (attempted) femicide against trans women is a global problem. This is just the latest case I’ve read about. I don’t really have anything to add, since I’m cis and also not Brazilian, I’m just so angry and horrified by the misogyny (including transmisogyny) everywhere. As long as this keeps happening, March 8th and Pride will be protests (in addition to commemorating the past). I’m linking an article below (in Portuguese) that includes the survivor’s account, be warned that it features a picture of the swastika scar. (And the article mentions that the assailants confessed, by the way.)

6-year-old Souad has been anemic since birth, and starvation and disease due to the IOF assault have caused her severe additional health complications. In September she fell unconscious and was admitted to the hospital. She has since been comatose and fluid is building up around her brain.

Medical staff have worked very hard to reduce the swelling. But despite their efforts, Souad's brain is now hemorrhaging (bleeding). The swelling has been too persistent, and the pressure is rapidly bursting the cells of her brain, causing bleeding. This will kill her. Little Souad is dying.

She needs to be evacuated outside of Gaza, but this is extremely expensive. The cost for transport through the Egyptian border, medical care, and associated expenses comes to $6,000 usd, about €5,000 EUR. This is a devastating setback, but all we can do is push forward.

We heard in the weather forecast that there will be heavy rain in Gaza tomorrow, Friday and Saturday, and I've been trying since this morning to buy wood and tent covers so I don't get flooded by the rainwater.

It's very expensive, and all the solutions are temporary; there are no permanent solutions except for the house.

My tent shakes a lot in the wind and blows away – and that's just from the wind, so what will it be like in a low-pressure system?
