I'm startled awake during the night. It's pitch black, but I can faintly see several silhouettes standing around my bed. Suddenly there's a bright light shining in my face, and I'm blinded.

"Why won't you just listen to these 10 fucking songs" one says, venom practically dripping from his voice.

I realize; it's the head of algorithms from every major music streaming service I use. Blinking from the intense light, I can finally see they all have guns pointed at me.

"I...I don't want to!" I manage to answer.

"Why?!" One bangs a fist into my bedsheets. "One of them is The Weeknd. You fucking LOVE The Weeknd!"

Terrified, I can't answer. The same one shoves a gun against my forehead. "Tell us why!"

"I don't want to! Please, I just don't want to hear those same 10 songs...! Can't your algorithm suggest something else?!"

"You think our algorithms are wrong?!" Another roars. Next to him, the calmest amongst them puts a hand on his shoulder.

"You will listen to Save Your Tears," he tells me with a level voice. "Algorithm knows you'll love it, and this nightmare will be over."

I'm appalled. Finding my courage, I scowl at him. "Maybe I would have, but not anymore."

Silence. The calm one hums before cocking his gun. "Are you sure?" I clench my teeth. A nod is all I can manage. He shakes his head, still eerily tranquil. "That's too bad."

He points his gun and fires, killing me instantly. Another sacrifice to the algorithm.

End scene.

All these years I've been so lucky with my teeth, just to need a double root canal due to trauma from getting whacked in the face, which I can't for the life of me figure out when it would have happened???
