summary : Olivia encourages Dax to not skip out during capture the flag this week,he unfortunately agrees but while being put on guarding duty meets someone new..
Friday evening, Dax had always dreaded Friday evenings ever since he first got to camp halfblood. Why you may ask? Three words, capture. the. flag. Dax hated capture the flag and would often sneak out just so that he wouldn’t have to play, I mean what was the point anyway? All that would happen would be he gets put on guarding duty while everyone else gets the glory of going to fight out there, I mean for gods sake he wasn’t even put as a stragetizer despite being a Athena kid.
“ But cmonnn Dax, you haven’t even played a single match since your first month here!” Olivia whined next to him on the Athena cabins porch. Olivia, who was currently unclaimed ,has been close with Dax for years now, first meeting in kindergarten and it’s lasted all the way till now, with Dax even leading them both to camp halfblood off of dreams he had been having a few months ago.
“ I told you oli, it’s no use I always get put on guarding duty no matter what team im on, it wouldn’t even be any fun..” Dax protested back to the stubborn girl. “ uhh yeah because no one’s ever made it interesting for you before, and that’s where I come in..” she said as she turned to face Dax on the steps “ I’ll place a bet, if you can make atleast one new friend during this game..well let me change that..” she murmured under her breath “ if you can atleast talk to one of your teammates during the match, I’ll do your chores for a week” she said confidently
Dax’s eyebrows practically rose to his hairline as he repeats “ you..doing my chores.,for an entire week..just for me to talk to somebody?” The skepticism was dripping in his voice “ thats an easy bet though, you wouldn’t really gain anything from it if all I had to do was just..talk to someone.” Olivia smirked as she said “ fine then, you have to make a friend in the span of this match, and I mean yall actually talk and have similar interest, not just you yapping to them the whole time.” Dax rolled his eyes as he said “ fine, I agree but what if I lose this bet?” He remembered the last time he had lost one of Olivia’s bets..let’s just say it was a very embarrassing memory. Olivia’s grin sharped “ you have to do favors to strangers for the whole week.”
Dax felt his face go flat in an instant. Olivia knew his stance in doing things for strangers, even if he was considered selfish for doing so. Dax had stated countless times before to her how it’s a waste of time to be doing stuff for people you barely or don’t even know at all, he’d rather do favors for people who actually mattered in his life. “ are you kidding me..” he murmured under his breath.
Olivia pointed her finger near his face saying “ ya cant back down now owl boy, you already agreed.” She said with her shit eating grin that he’d grown to memorize, and soon a small smile broke out on his own face from seeing Olivia’s bright face “ fine fine..I’ll hold up my deal, but dont be mad when you’re on stable duty.” Her face broke into a more genuine smile as she said “ I won’t be made since you’ll have somebody new to talk to..I do hope you realize in that dense brain that im doing this whole bet for your benefit right.” Dax once again rolled his eyes as he bumped his shoulder with hers saying “ I know I know how considerate of you.” And before she could respond the horn blew, teams would now start their 15 minute prep before the match starts.
Anddd the 15 minutes went exactly like they had before, which basically ment Dax was put on guarding duty again the only different was the red bandana in his arm now and the boy standing right next to him. “ you remember the plan right, I mean guarding duty’s pretty easy, if you see anyone with a blue bandana, defend the base, got it?” But before Dax could respond to the son of Apollo who was explaining to him, the boy had already rushed off, presumably to his own position, which left the hill where red teams flag is at with him, a Demeter cabin girl, and a boy to his right..
The boy to his right was slightly taller than his and had dark and almost glowy like skin, he also had soft red eyes that shifted to a pink in the sunlight along with his black dark coil that framed his face, and he has also noticed the boys various beauty marks but before he could memorize anything else- “ Y’know i can feel you burning a hole through my face.” The boy said casually like commenting on the days weather
dax felt his cheeks warm from getting caught, feeling utterly embarrassed “ uhh yeah…sorry- its just that I haven’t seen you around..like ever..” he said as he fiddled with his celestial bronze sword handle “ or maybe you just never bothered looking, not blaming though ive practically done the same with people before too.” The boy said as he finally turned to face Dax as he held out his hand “ im Adrian by the way, Adrian Springfield, son of Aphrodite for like..a few months at this point and the older Springfield.” Dax looked down at the boys hand blankly for a second before snapping out of it and taking his hand to shake saying “ nice to meet you then, im Daxson Landry, son of Athena for a about a month now.” Dax held onto Adrian’s hand for a moment longer before realizing that the boy had stopped shaking his hand and quickly let go.
“ soo…you like Minecraft perhaps?” Dax wanted to slap himself in thr face by saying that. Before he arrived at camp halfblood, and whenever his dad wasn’t looking, he’d often watch and play Minecraft any chance he’d get, liking that he had control over his own world, even if it’s fictional. Adrian smiled slightly as he said “ yeah actually, before I came here I’d play it casually..usually it would end up with my sister Claire blowing up anything I built and giggling about it afterwards.” He recounted with a soft voice and look that made it clear that he must cherish his sister deeply, Dax almost envied the way Adrian has a close bond with his sister and he barely knew the boy.
“ Claire huh..? Never heard her name in the Aphrodite cabin..” Dax said tilting his head “ cause shes not an Aphrodite kid.” Adrian said cracking his arms “ shes a daughter of Demeter, and yeah I know we have 2 different goddesses as our moms.” Adrian turned to face Dax and hesitately added “ and umm..Yknow if you ever wanna continue talking like this after the match-“ but before he could continue a smoke bomb went off as Dax swatted through the smoke, his sword in his hand in an instant but by the time the smoke clears, the flag was gone.
“ yeah and then I was able to trip one of the bulky ares guys and that was really epic to see him fall in a pile of mud.” Olivia recounted as dinner had ended and heading to the campfire with Dax walking besides her but than suddenly felt a tap on his shoulder and turned around “ hey uhh..i was wondering if you..Y’know wanted to hang out? This time without getting our team to lose..” Adrian said with a slight smirk. Dax could practically feel Olivia’s shit eating grin on her face as she asks “ and who you might be-“ before Dax shoved her away saying “ yeah! Cool totally, im deifnetly free right now right Olivia.” He said as he side eyed her “ oh yeah, hes deifnetly free alright, hes free for like the entirety of next week also-“ she said with a big genuine smile on her face, Dax could tell she was truly happy for actually managing to make a friend all by himself. Adrian raised an eyebrow clearly amused by this as he said “ alright then..you wouldn’t mind if he hung out in the Aphrodite cabin porch then right?” He said as he already started to walk towards his cabin and Dax felt a pair of hands grip onto his shoulder and lightly push him towards that direction as he turned his face to see Olivia mouth out the words “ go, have fun “ and with a soft smile he mouthed back “ thanks for this “ before quickly catching up with Adrian and walking to the Aphrodite cabins porch.
