Reflection
I’ve learned a lot about what being in a relationship is like, things that JK is sensitive about, how to be independent from him, how to communicate with each other, and how to be patient.
We have our ups and downs. We get upset at each other. But just because I’m mad doesn’t mean I don’t love him. JK and I try to find a way to fix it or to communicate in order to understand each other. We try hard because we want our relationship to last a long time.
So even though it sounds corny, I fall more and more in love with JK everyday. We can’t get enough of each other and work hard everyday so that we can see each other again. I don’t mind waiting. The wait may be bitter but when we get to spend time together, it’s much more appreciated and sweet.
Everything is ok
Along with being far apart comes the feeling of doubt. We have had out times of doubting each other. He has doubted me before and I have doubted him before. But we work things out and make sure that we’re happy by talking it out.
One time we were talking on the phone and got into a argument. I said something to JK that doubted him and he got very upset. He’s not the type to lash out and get rough when arguing. Instead he is passive and keeps quiet or even overs to drop the conversation. We were both still upset about the argument so I decided to apologize for what I said. I apologized for hurting his feelings and explained that sometimes in the heat of an argument I say things that I don’t mean. He explained that he was disappointed that would doubt his love for me.
After overthinking things I realized that I do need to give more credit to JK. He can be sweet and he takes care of me when he’s with me; even when he’s not physically. It’s the little things that shows his love. When he find me in a crowded room to make sure I’m still having a good time. When he makes sure that I am doing well in school. When he wants to hold my hand while he’s driving me home. How he give me nicknames like “Jennabell” or “monkey”. They may not be big, but they are sweet and sincere. It was a shaky start for our long-distance relationship but now that I have had more time apart from him and I have come to really appreciate the big and little things that he does for me, I no longer have doubt in our love. I’m very happy that it is that way.
When we can both trust each other and believe that no matter what happens and that in the end we still love each other, everything is ok.
Be Patient
Sometimes being so far apart from each other and miscommunication can cause one of us to doubt the other. At the beginning of our long-distance relationship I would have thoughts running through my head like “does he not miss me” or “does he not care about giving me attention.” I was really upset that JK was always busy. He was learning a new town and had many friends visiting him when he first moved.
Part of the reason why I was upset was because I jealous of his friends that were visiting him and I missed his company. Without JK to keep me company, I had a lot of extra time on my hands. I could have done anything but instead I channeled all of my focus onto him. I grew upset when I realized JK was busy and could not give me the attention that I am use to so I talked to him about it. He was understanding of my feelings but he also urged me to understand his situation. “I’m in a new town that I am unfamiliar with. I’m still getting to know my surroundings. I’m here by myself so I need to make some new friends. You are at home with your family and friends. It’s different. Please understand,” he said.
After talking about our feelings, I understood his point and felt that I shouldn’t be so needy and cling onto him. Now that I have had the time to get use to the distance, I am more understanding when he says “sorry babe, I’m having dinner with a friend. I’ll call you later” or even “I’m watching tv.” I use to get upset over little things like that but now I don’t mind and I understand when JK needs time for his friends or for himself.
I’ve learned to be patient with him.

Distance
Before he moved, he lived in Dallas and we got to see each other many times in a week. But now that we live farther apart it’s been hard adjusting to the distance.
I felt like I was missing out in the new things that he was doing. To fix that we like to update each other and communicate well so that it feels like we aren’t losing time together by being apart.
Being in a long distance relationship also freed up a lot of time. I use to spend all of my time with him. Now that I have more time to myself, I have been able to focus on the things I want to accomplish and on my family and friends.
I Wonder
I decided to write about my love with my boyfriend, JK, because my relationship with him and our adventure is very special to me. We’ve been together for two years and at the moment we have been doing a long-distance relationship for almost one a year.
He moved to Chicago, Illinois for a new job and so that his younger brother could attend college there. I am currently living in Dallas with my family and attending college. I’d say it’s pretty far. Definitely not close enough that we can visit every day or weekend. The separation bothered me at first, but as time went by I learned to accept it.
We talk everyday - the day is not complete if we haven’t talked to each other. In the mornings I call him to say “good morning,” and “have a good day,” and at night we talk about whatever that is on our minds and say our goodnights. During the day we are both kept busy. I go to school and work part-time while he works full time.
Whenever I am doing something I stop and wonder, what is he doing right now?
Snowflake
He is the first thing I think about when I wake up, and the last thing before I fall asleep.
