“The fact that you come with a list of references is actually adorable Molly” she giggled, pushing her hair behind her ears. “I don’t think that’s a bad thing though” she added, smiling brightly. “Maybe it’s a different department, and that’s how you tell when one ends and another begins?” she questioned curiously, coming to a stop. “You know, it’s not as interesting down here as I had hoped…”

“well, I could probably come up with a list of people who would lie and say I’m a good liar too, but they’re also shit liars and it wouldn’t be believable either.” she giggled. “oh! that’s true! that would be a really good idea.” molly nodded. however, that would mean they’d wandered into a new department, and there were no signs telling them which one it was. “should we try opening a door?”

Gideon considered putting a hand out for Molly, only to remove it at the last second, but knew she’d get one up on him later if he did so, and that scared him enough. Molly: small but mighty. Growing up in the Prewett household, he and Fabian had learned quickly that their little sister, unassuming and sweet, was not to be messed with.

A few pieces of popcorn pulled from her hair, then a smile. “Dunno. Everything.” He wasn’t sure exactly what he had been thinking about. A lot of things always swirled around in his brain, some of them cause for alarm, others not so much. Thoughts about how badly he didn’t want to go to his herbology class tomorrow, or the set of babushka dolls on his bedside table were often overshadowed by the war. He worried about Molly too, as any big brother would. About her self esteem. About what he would do if she was ever kil—

He couldn’t bare the thought. So he didn’t. 

“You know Fab and I will always look out for you, right, Mol?” On the nose, sure, but he meant it.

once back on her feet, molly brushed off her skirt. then she shook out her hair to make sure that there wasn’t anything left in it. thankfully, gideon helped pick out the stray kernels like a good big brother. molly’s temper was legendary, but she fell down so much that if she got angry every time, she’d never laugh again. it just wasn’t worth it. besides, no one meant any harm. growing up in a household with the prewett twins, you quickly learned the difference and how to adapt to each situation. “woah. that’s a lot to think about.” she giggled.

“Should we see who can get more points in the whack-a-niffler game? We can place a wager on it.”

“that’s a bold wager to make. I have the reflexes of a very determined sloth. I think I could win this one, teddy bear.”

Arthur loved the holidays, all of them. He loved seeing the joy and anticipation on people’s faces. Normally, he was more of an observer, but tonight he had something of his own to be nervous about. There was no time to waste, though, if he wanted to catch the ferris wheel by midnight. His feet quickly strode over to the girl he had been eyeing the majority of the evening. He came up behind her and placed his hands over her eyes, “Guess who. If you guess correctly, I have a surprise for you or well, more of an idea.” He was rambling already, bloody hell.

the carnival was a wonderful time, even despite the torture that was ice skating with her cousin earlier. molly had managed to find someone that sold butterscotch popcorn balls which seemed to her like perhaps the greatest invention of all time. she was, not so gracefully, trying to shove the second half of one in her mouth when suddenly she couldn’t see. molly gasped. incidentally that was not an ideal combination given the food in her mouth. she coughed for a moment so as to not let the kernels obstruct her airways, and turned approximately twelve shades of red (not including her hair) as the voice was instantly recognizable to her. “but what if I guess wrong, arthur?”

“So if we get caught, and you tell them you don’t know anything, you won’t be lying?” she teased, a soft giggle escaping from her lips. As they walked through the hall ways, Isabella read each door name with interest, her hand gliding along the polish tile walls, that turned to stone as they turned one corner. “Do you think the architect got bored, or ran out of tiles?” she asked, pointing at the different walls and grinning.

“which is probably for the best because both my brothers, ted, and daisy would agree that I am an absolute shit liar.” molly chuckled quietly as they moved through the halls. anxiety was starting to bubble up in the pit of her stomach. she really didn’t want to get caught though. “hmmm.” molly ran a hand along the wall where it changed. “or they needed different material for whatever is down the way.”

“Miss Lizzie Bennett.” Reggie couldn’t quite help himself when he buried his face into her soft fur and gave her a little kiss. It might have been a bit of a coping mechanism, considering the break he’d had, but she’d absolutely captured him. “My buddy Moose had this stray that always came around and we would feed her and stuff. She decided that the best place to give birth to her litter was on his back porch, so he’s been keeping the litter and the momma in his living room, and they’re finally old enough to adopt out now. He called and asked me if I wanted to help him take them to this no kill shelter, and she just kinda crawled into my lap. Looked up at me, did that blinky heart eyes thing. It was love at first meow.”

“bennett?” molly asked. her fingers scratching gently behind the little creature’s sweet triangle ears. “is that a reference to something?” if it was, it went right over molly’s head. it was a cute name all the same. little lizzie would be a very happy cat. she could tell already. “it sounds like she was a lucky lady to be in just the right litter in just the right place at just the right time.” molly leaned forward and nuzzled her own nose against the kitty. then leaned back and far away from them both to sneeze into her elbow. “wait, you have a friend named moose?”

Allie was ready to argue that, despite her competetive nature and assuredness that she could do anything, she also knew when to call it quits. Unfortunately, Molly grabbed her arm and she was absolutely a lost cause after that moment. With a soft ‘oomph’, her butt hit the ice hard and, despite the jolt of pain, she threw her head back and started laughing. “We’re both very capable young ladies who might want to call it quits and go get some cocoa, Molls. We can’t let your brothers or my brother see us failing this badly or they’ll never let us live it down. Besides, we got about halfway, that’s good, right?” She paused as she stood, trying and failing to keep her balance before she grabbed onto the wall beside her. “And my butt hurts now. So.”

as the ice soaked through her skirt, molly nodded her head. “you know what, I think us very capable girls deserve hot cocoa. that sounds really nice. who need skating anyway?” she hadn’t even considered that fabian or gideon could be watching. her eyes scanned the crowd a little anxiously. this was not a memory that she wanted their laughter included in. “my butt hurts so bad!” molly whined, reaching out for the wall herself and being unfortunately out of reach. she was going to fall again. she just knew it. “why is this so hard?!”

“Merlin! Sorry! Are you alright?!” Gideon exclaimed. 


As usual, he had been to preoccupied with his latest procurement from one of the many strategically-placed sweet shops along Hogsmeade’s main street. He’d lost his footing under the dim fairylights, well-worn sneaker partaking in an argument with an undisclosed bit of rubbish, resulting in a messy collision between Gideon and another fete-goer.

His left hand held an orange liquorice wand, his right moving to cover his mouth slightly at the state he had left his fellow collider in. “Was totally off in my own world. Are you sure you’re alright?”

“ow! shit!” molly managed to land directly on her ass with a thud. her popcorn went flying into the air and all in her hair and into gideon’s. there was barely any left in the box when she looked back into it. she huffed out a slightly disappointed sigh as she reached up for her brother’s help to get back on her feet. “yeah, I’m fine. I tried skating with allie earlier so I think my ass is already numb.” she assured him with a smile. molly took the liquorice wand out of his hand and took a bite as payment. “you owe me more popcorn, though. what were you thinking about?”

“You’d be surprised, I think,” he replied, hands in his pockets as he continued to pretend to pay attention to the tour guide. “I heard there’s a room full of these brain things just…. floating in guck,” he said, lowering his voice to a conspirators whisper. 

“well, I often am.” molly giggled, trying her best not to be loud enough to catch the attention of the tour guide. it wasn’t like she was trying to be disruptive. this was just a bit boring now. “brains?!” molly squeaked. “you’re kidding. brains of what?!”

“Listen, I just met her, but I love her and I would die for her.” Reggie’s face was lit up with joy, the furry little kitten in his arms pawing at his ear and sniffing at his face only adding to how absolutely enchanted he was. Sure, Nik was allergic, and that would probably be an issue, but he had to believe they’d find a way around that, lest his entire mood go south again. “I think I’m going to call her Lizzie.”

“oh that’s a wonderful name.” molly grinned from ear to ear at the little purring creature. “little lizzie.” she held out her hand so that the kitten could sniff at her fingers. it was good to let her get used to the scent before absolutely devouring her with pets and kisses. “where did she come from?”

“This was a terrible idea, I have absolutely shite balance.” Allie held her arms out on either side of her, doing her best not to fall flat onto her face on the ice, skates on her feet barely inching forward as she shuffled along. “How did you manage to talk me into this, I swear I said ‘no’ earlier and yet here I am.” She glanced up, smirk on her face as she wobbled a bit, arms flailing a bit too much to play it off. “You owe me the biggest drink, I swear.”

“no, no, no, no, no. we’re both very capable young ladies. we can get around this rink at least once without serious injury. I’m almost certain.” the determination in molly’s voice was only matched by the sheer concentration that clouded every feature on her face. her eyebrows were knit together as she stared down at her own two feet. both hands were stuck out at angles in a desperate attempt to keep her balance. “because I really think that we can do it! there’s not reason why we can’t. right?” her skate hit a chink in the ice and molly wobbled crazily. “shit, shit, shit.” she grabbed onto allie quickly, pulling them both down.

Once they had travelled a ways down the hall way, she ducked into the side and turned to look back where they had come from. Luckily, it seemed as though they had been completely forgotten about, as the group had disappeared. “No, it looks like we’re in the clear” she smiled at Molly, who was breathing a little more heavily than she had been a minute ago. “Let’s remember this little statue before we go any further, so we know what to look for to get back” she said, quickly, pointing to the odd shaped statue next to her on the wall. It might have been a flower, or a goblin, but who knew?

“yeah. fair warning.” molly grimaced looking at the very oddly shaped statue once over. “I wouldn’t trust my memory most days. it’s complete shit. so you remember it, and I’ll try my best to help you remember it and not get lost.” she snickered quietly, but didn’t stop moving deeper into the hallways. her nosiness getting the better of her as she looked in the door windows curiously.

Isabella looked between the tour guide and Molly one last time, thinking that her father would probably kill her, but then again he never needed to know. “We need to make a run for it quickly” she whispered, backing away from the group as the rest of the tour began walking away. “Go, now” she whispered, turning running down the surely ‘out of bounds’ corridor.

this was a bad idea. yet, that didn’t stop molly from taking off like a bolt down the hallways the second that isabella gave her the all clear. baby sister 101 involved running when someone told you to run. if you stopped to ask questions, you were getting an enchanted bludger to the face. “are they following us?” she whispered over her labored breathing once they were a ways down the hall.

Bilius hadn’t been paying attention. His mother said that it would be good for him to take the tour during the party, and he begrudgingly agreed. He was a bit of a momma’s boy, let’s be real, and she was one of the few people he absolutely could not say no to. “Uh…. Probably something top secret and a bit silly for the Ministry to care about?”

bilius had always been a sweetheart. compared to most people in the castle, he was a rather steady and easy presence to be around. she’d never much minded spending time with him. (though admittedly, he was no arthur.) “I probably could have guessed that much, huh? I mean what would be so secret and silly that the ministry would hide it on a tour?”
