Additional Experimentation

I understand that the concept statement is meant to be 700 words and include a bibliography but I could not think of anything else to write about and I simply did not use any other material rather than my myself. 

Actually here is a bibliography for the Khmer wedding music. 

Film Number 2: 

The sexualisation of fish, whatever that means. I think fish is pretty sexy. Its slimy, smelly, grimy nature makes it sexy. Society is generally careful when dealing with something that use to be alive. I wanted to remove this factor. Eating is also pretty sexy. Its a luxury. Combing all this, I’ve come up with this film. 

My three subjects are a couple, and a baked fish. Through the film/ peformance they eat the fish and kiss. 

Film Number 1: 

I had the idea to film myself gutting and filleting a fish in the ocean and as I cut pieces from the body I through them back into the ocean. 

I really struggle writing this blog, I am very private about my mind and ideas, if audiences knew the reason and purpose about the piece, what is its purpose? I want them to be intrigued, bored, infuriated, whatever, but I don’t want them to know what I feel about it. Anyway, I will try, its 25%. 

This work is about, waste, consumption, the superiority of the human race, and the absurdity of mankind as a whole in relation to our natural habitat.  

It is difficult for me to explain my process as ideas come to me pretty quick and I just roll with them. There isn't much planning, I have an idea and picture in my head of what it will look like and I try to recreate that. I don’t even think about it enough to try and find the reason or meaning behind the idea. I just trust my instincts and go with it, make it happen. 

Project: ‘Not enough’

Humans desire more. Even if one has the world they desire to increase what they own, to gain more. The human sensory system is our central feature used to attain ‘more’. Through sight, we see our desires. Through hearing we hear what we want to attain, through smell, we are attracted to foods and items which we wish to purchase or eat.

1. Art and design often explore relationships between humans and non-humans, the environment and ecology. How can contemporary art and design propose new possibilities for imagining the ‘human’ and the environment?

It is important for there to be an understanding that there is no difference between human and the environment.

My work aims to fluidly combine photographic images representing the three stages of transformation from human to environment. ‘Human’, ‘decay’ and ‘meat’. I wish to seek out beauty within each of these themes as I believe the cycle of life to hold many aspects of beauty. 

I choose to focus on form within the theme of ‘human’ and choose organic aspects of the body. In some ways the figures seem abscise, this is done though the use of natural lighting, there has been no digital manipulation towards the forms. I am drawn towards the female body within my art practice for the simple reason of that I find it more visually appealing than the male form. In this work however, I believe the use of the female to have a deeper meaning. The relation to birth and women being the bearer of a child/ giver of life.
