Here are some photos I took in Seattle (before the march, during the rally). Feel free to use them or share them or whatever! I know that protesting and being upset will not change the fact that Trump was elected - but he is not my president. He is not my president because I know three boys who dressed up as school shooters for Halloween- Trump will never pass gun control laws. He is not my president because yesterday, a group of men yelled at my sister and her friends to "leave the country soon before they're deported anyway." They said that if she didn't, they would rape her and her friends. Arguably, they were just terrible people who might've said these things anyway, but it is undeniable that Trump winning confirmed their beliefs and gave them confidence to be so outright. So I will never accept him as our president, a symbol of our country, and our beliefs. He is not. Telling me and thousands of others who feel upset and unsafe to accept the results of this election doesn't make sense to me. This isn't just about politics anymore - it's a lot about culture and identity. This isn't "the republicans won." This is "racism, sexism, xenophobia, homophobia, islamaphobia, etc. and hate won." To accept he is our president is to accept that we have lost the fight for equality. Don't get me wrong - I do not believe that protests should turn violent. But I believe that expressing our disappointment and disgust is important in showing that we will not give up on fighting for love and equality. Echoing chants of "black lives matter," "we stand up, we fight," "misogyny has got to go," brings faith back into our society, and shows us that with resolute, things will hopefully change, and get better.
