this morning i was scrolling through my for you page on tiktok, as one does. i scroll down from the video i was just watching and come face-to-face with someone weighing themselves, bodychecking, and logging their cals. the caption was something along the lines of “i gained weight, so i’m not gonna eat today”. i went to the comments to see a flood of people reflecting my inner thoughts: why would you post this?

the thing about tiktok is that you cannot control what is on your fyp (for you page). this person had a public account where they were showcasing their struggle, and it had clearly reached thousands of people. many of these people that the video reached were trying to recover/in the process of recovery/recovered from an eating disorder. this video had clearly triggered many of the people it had reached, probably causing several people to relapse. there was no trigger warning in sight. people in the comments were expressing outrage in this type of tiktok content: no one wants to see this on their fyp, no one wants to risk getting triggered by this careless sort of venting.

if you are going to have an outlet for your ED, for the love of everything, DON’T USE TIKTOK. you are putting other people at risk of relapsing because they CAN’T CHOOSE what’s on their fyp!!! at the very least, make it a PRIVATE ACCOUNT! i know i must sound somewhat hypocritical coming from a vent tumblr blog, but please, consider other people’s wellbeing. i think that tumblr is a lot different of a vent space, because you have to go out of your way to find the content you want. no one is forced to see your blog, or your posts. don’t make public tiktok pages encouraging eating disorders. that’s all i have to say on th matter.
