Railway police official talks about the problems of the elderly that he addresses on a daily basis

Crossing roads are risky for elderly's as there are not enough zebra crossings and traffic signals in the city . 

Mr. Rangaswamy and his wife Mrs. Devi travel from Adyar to Kotturpuram in Chennai twice a week. They are forced to take autos because buses are too crowded and do not have enough seats. They are disgruntled with the autos as well because they take advantage of the situation.

The battery operated cars are a boon to them and since it is very cheap, the elderly use it very frequently. 

The senior citizens in the city of Chennai, Tamil Nadu are facing a tough time travelling in buses. The high footboard, overcrowding and not enough seats in the buses add to their woes.

Gopinath,67, from Bangalore voiced his concerns over the hardships that the elderly people face in railway stations and explained especially about the not so complementing railway platforms.

Traffic signals create issues for Elderly drivers The elders who commute daily in the city find it unmanageable to drive in and around the city. As the elders drive a bit slow, they find the timing of traffic signals untimely which makes it difficult for them to cross it on time. The other issues which elders face is the driving of auto-rikshaw drivers who stop anywhere between the moving traffic making it difficult for the elders to drive.

Mr Narayan (65), travels  to Adyar from Borur daily for his dialysis . There are no proper facility for people like him to sit and stand in shades at bus stand  .The condition of the roads make it worse for him .

The issues the elders are facing is of rash driving by the youngsters and the infrastructure of the roads which makes it more difficult for them to drive.

Mrs. Rajni Shiru , 77 year old is a retired professor from Madras University. She goes for a walk daily and finds it difficult to walk on the roads and footpaths as most of them are not in good condition.
