Guts and Determination

He sighed a breath of relief as he was informed of her status. He kept up his warm smile, unable to feel any form of negative emotion. An accident was an accident– he was sure his other friends would have yelled. He was glad he had some form of rationality.

What a forgiving soul. She reaching into her bag and pulled out a coupon to her theater and bar. She always carried around these tokens of thanks where ever she went. First, it was good business to get her theater's name out there and second, who didn't like a free show?

“eheh…hehehehe” Cletus tried his best to contain his excitement but it was impossible to let that laugh be kept inside. His eyes remained wild as he looked at the girl with his smile. Casually, the man slipped his hands into the pockets of his ratty leather jacket.

One moment Kyoko was looking down at her phone reading off the time and the next looked up and the man put on a weird red costume. At first his warning concerning her safety put her a little at ease. Her grudges, however, told her differently and were having a feeding frenzy off the malevolent emotions radiating from him.

Kyoko had had a late night. Her restaurant and bar had closed late and afterwards she had spent time working on the books. She was, however, in a good mood. For the first time ever the LoveMe Theater was operating in the black.

{♤} “Hmm” That’s not the answer Frey has been hoping for. But aside of a very brief frown, he’s doing his best to hide his disappointment. “I’ve taken many jobs before. But I can’t really see myself as a wait-staff or bartender. Or—” He pauses a moment.

Kyoko could hear the disappointment in his voice. A part of her couldn’t help but feel bad for not being able to offer him a job in a field he was interested in, but as an owner she had a responsibility to both the theater and its current employees to run it as efficiently as possible. Paying someone to stand around and stop fights and do nothing else seemed like such a waste. A better solution would be to hire a person that could stop fights and wait tables.

Bullseye. Frey still remains casual about their conversation, though.

For a moment the idea appealed to her. After all, it would be another worry taken from her shoulders, but Kyoko thought about the couple she worked for at the Darumaya and about the Ryokan she was practically raised at owned by the Fuwa family. Taking care of the customers was the owner’s responsibility. If she were to hire security to take care of the troublesome patrons then her pride as an owner would be at stake.

Chicken Omurice? Frey knows what a chicken is. But Omurice? Probably some kind of rice… “Sure, I’d like to try that. A beer to go with it would be nice, too.” Just in case it tasted awful after all, he’d be able to wash down the taste of it. And unlike Kyoko, he doesn’t mind a beer here and there. He gives her a enthusiastic smile in return, as he proceeds to dive into some chitchat.

Kyoko was momentarily taken aback by his question about security. So far she hadn't run into any problems that she couldn't handle. Just last night a pair of customers got a little rowdy and started fighting. From just a few words from her (and some help from her grudges) the two men stopped, paid their bills and left. Hiring security had never crossed her mind.

{♤} In his home world, Frey knows a couple of bars he frequents regularly. Not necessary for their drinks or ambiance, but more for the postal system. And that’s because Frey doesn’t trust the normal postal service, when it comes to not entirely legal contents. In Hive City, he has no use for any postal services altogether. There is no need for letters, if you have these fancy little smartphones that send messages within seconds. That means also, there are not many specific places he frequents regularly yet, except ‘Just Deserts’, and 'The Hanged Man’, where Frey works himself. But, he considers quitting his services as a security in the Hanged Man as of lately. It seems to fall apart, and he knows when to leave a sinking ship. As he casually takes a seat before the bar counter, he looks around with mild interest. Now, a theater isn’t necessarily a place he imagines himself to hang around regularly. They always seem like places for the more cultivated people to him. But, he heard that the owner of the 'Love Me Theater’ (a name Frey considers horrible) keeps it open daily and runs a pub inside it. The food is good (apparently) and not ridiculously expensive. That sounds already good enough for a visit to Frey. Maybe, he could offer his services there for the time being, as well. Still parted with his ship, he can’t afford to be picky about jobs. And security? He got the equipment for that.

"Absolutly, sir," she said as she passed him a menu. "I am the proprietress of the LoveMe Theater, Kyoko Mogami, and today's special is the chicken omurice. However I stand by everything on the menu and I'm quite skilled with Kyoto style cuisine."

The suddenness of the moment made the mage blink twice, only to realize that the woman had accidentally bumped into him. No wonder he almost fell to the ground. Allanon smiled, waving off the other without a care int the world.

Kyoko did a double take. This person was male. His beautiful hair had given her the initial impression that he wasn't. Her face flushed. She hoped that she hadn't let on her embarrassing misconception.

Geez. A girl couldn’t catch a break, could she? All she wanted was a quiet morning spent reading the latest Elven romance written by the era’s greatest author.

Kyoko lashed out with his staff (broom) and felled one of the closer villains (vase). She figured that she could keep one alive to talk in the end if necessary. He crumpled to the flow in a heap (shattered to pieces).

The bow caught him off guard. Where did that come from?? Most people chased him away because of his reputation. But then again, he mused, this isn’t a normal city. With a mental sigh, he made his conscience accept that this woman was offering him food. Maybe paying her back would be a a good way to get in her favor. 

Kyoko gave him a weary look. Throwing around terms like dear was definitely a sign of a playboy. He also used her given name and she was sure that Zeinite wasn’t his family name. He probably thought it funny to try to force her to speak to him more intimately. To be fair most people in this lawless city didn’t have the manners to address each other properly, she thought. She shouldn’t hold it against him except for the fact he called her dear.
