I may or may not have been offered a new position with better pay. Sounds fake, I know.
So there is a distinct possibility that I will be getting my hands on a new console soon to play Veilguard...

Are you ready for the new swathes of MGIT/MCIT fics that will come out because of Veilguard?
I would like to say yes, but I'll be lucky if I can get my hands on a game system capable of playing Veilguard myself before that wave...

Miss you babe

Does anyone know what explanations are given for how modern characters wind up in Thedas? I know their appearance is commonly attributed to the Breach, but that doesn’t usually get explained either beyond “wizard did it” type handwaves. Looking for the more unique or well thought out explanations to help me get the inspiration flowing.
Magical artifacts or reincarnation are often used as explanations for transdimensional travel into Thedas in addition to the Breach Rifts... And at least one where the ability to travel between worlds was an inherent ability of a character. I also seem to recall one where it was the result of a magical ritual performed by resident Dragon Age characters...
But I’m sure someone else has given this idea detailed thought--if they wouldn’t mind sharing them here...?
A few MGIT stories have addressed the possibility of a language barrier. Considering the analogies to historical Earth, I wonder if Feredelens would speak something like Old English or Middle English? So that there's a little bit there that's almost recognizable, but not enough to fully communicate...
Ooh, that’s an interesting thought! And a good way to explore the language barrier in a different way.

The anon asking for stories that don’t have Solas/Cullen/Alistair as the romance option is such a mood, I wish more people would write Isabela or Merrill as the love interest (or even Leliana) 😂
More variety of pairings is always nice.
do you think it’s to late to write a mcit prompt that you reblogged in the year 2016? 😂
Absolutely not too late. What is time?
Charlie Weasley from HP ends up in Thedas and ends up taming dragons and is brought in as an expert for the Inquisition on how to either slay or save the dragons they encounter.
Love it
personally i like when the modern characters are struggling to adapt to live without technology bc i think it gives it an interesting obstacle, but i like it even more when it’s counterbalanced by a useful ability they have, like speaking multiple languages, being a scientist/doctor, being a skilled negotiator, or even things like being a good singer or a good cook
I agree that balance is key. Definitely helps ground the story/character.
A modern girl that’s a weapons smith and doesn’t mind making advanced weapons for the right people. One day she meets a certain dwarf, only he’s sans his signature crossbow, so of course she goes about making it for him.
The modern girl’s name? Bianca.
Basically, what if Varric’s Bianca was someone other than Bianca Davri, and OC Bianca’s not about to not romance the previously unromanceable Varric Tethras.
Ooh, interesting. Makes me wonder how things might play out with two Biancas...and how the OC might react to realizing they're becoming Varric's Bianca...

Are there any hidden gem MGIT fics that are /NOT/ Cullenmance/Solasmance/Alistairmance that you can recommend?
I don't know about hidden ones, but here are some of my favorites...
Note to Self: Don't Die, by: Hypermuffins
You call this fun?! by: Grey_Huntress_Warden
Best Laid Plans Of Mice And Morons, by: Sublimey
Mea Culpa, by: VisceralComa
Feinting on Your Blind Side, by: TheOneKrafter
CONFESSION:
Sometimes, when I feel that the games/comics/novels of DA are not enough, I turn to fanfiction. I imagine no one would be surprised that "Modern person in Thedas" is a popular trope. But it did leave me thinking... We take so much 'magic' in our stories/songs/legends for granted. How much of them could be interpreted in a completely different way in DA world? All the talking animals in kid's stories alone could be enough to freak people out
On the topic of resourcefulness I was raised in an isolated little town in a high mountain desert and the character out of their depths about the technology is just wild and a little frustrating to me, it feels so obvious. I just never realized how much of my education was influenced by like, the local native tribe doing education field trips with us, or the forestry service or the local farmers and artists. I guess it's not exactly common to learn how to tan a hide or build an orno in school 😅
Ah, yes. I think a lot of us can relate to that frustration in different ways. I suppose the thing to remember is that the author has chosen to give their character this type of weakness in order to serve the kind of story they want to tell, not necessarily as a reflection of their own knowledge or resourcefulness.
It can be fun to follow a character who is out of their depth, but I won't deny that I, too, tend to gravitate toward the more resourceful characters, as something of a Jack of All Trades, myself.
It's pretty cool that you got the chance to learn so many basic survival skills and crafts. I've always found it interesting to see how "common" your own common knowledge is amongst others... (I mean, I've known people who didn't know you needed to squeeze the water out of dish sponges, nor that shower drains can get clogged with hair, so some of these clueless protagonists are pretty realistic.)
I put some stats together on MCIT ship tags. If someone has a better method of collecting the data, beyond individually checking - please by all means it's yours. But check it out here
To collect further data on MCIT/MGIT fics, I created this Google Doc form, where anyone can submit on any fic's details so I can compile the data for all to see on certain information. It'll be open for a year. I'll clean out any duplicates and post the results under the readmore of this original post once a month
hey @moderngirlinthedas mind giving this a boost?
Prompt: tbh I just want an epic MGIT & Fenris bromance with a side of (queer)platonic cuddles and team dad varric
I am always here for more Fenris and Varric~

I'm thinking of a fic but can't remember the name for the life of me- the mgit was summoned into thedas by a crazy mage, she had green hair, and eventually came to Kirkwall?
Not ringing any bells for me, but perhaps... Anyone else? (╭ರ_•́)
concept: necromancer tries to bring someone back to life for real (instead of just doing the zombie thing) but since this is experimental magic (and maybe because the breach just kinda blew up all magic rules like it did with time magic) they screw up and drag and an earthling through the fade instead
Ooh, I like it.
