Hello. My tumblr names used to be frozenmorningdew. I haven’t been in the tag since the beginning of September but I have been writing/editing, mostly without posting. I have an AU story called All I’ve Ever Needed and I just posted the twelfth chapter on AO3. I decided to put it on here too for those who aren’t familiar with AO3. I’m also putting a link to the previous eleven chapters if anyone is interested. I haven’t gotten any better at writing but I still enjoy it very much.

So I just took a stroll on over to their Twitter account for the Country Music Association, and sure enough, there’s no mention of Beyonce (or the Dixie Chicks) anywhere.  The coverage of last night’s show is very comprehensive, with photos of each winner (as they should have) and either gifs or video clips or tweets of every performance.

No mention of Beyonce.

So then I went over to CMA World, which is the main page for the Country Music Association.  I read all of their press releases about the CMAs, but they were mostly focused on the winners.  There was mention of Tim McGraw’s performance and Little Big Town’s performance, so I wasn’t really surprised Beyonce hadn’t been recognized.

So then I went over to the webpage for the actual CMA Awards because they have a list of all of the performers and presenters.

No mention of Beyonce.

So they just used the biggest pop star on the planet to give them a ratings boost in the face of the World Series because a lot of their viewing audience was siphoned off by that game.  They filled in the extra space with the Beyhive and then pretended nothing ever happened because their ignorant fanbase got all up in their feelings about it.  Mind you, Beyonce did not ask to perform – they came to her because “Daddy Lessons” is a great song…and they knew she was ratings gold.  They asked her and then she asked if she could bring the Dixie Chicks with her.  There’s no mention of the Dixie Chicks on any of ther sites either, but country music still hates them.  The only reason they were there at all is because Beyonce – the invited guest they’re now ignoring – wanted to have them there.  Natalie Maines thought she’d never perform on that stage again and only did so because Beyonce asked them to.  That’s the power of Beyonce.  And I can’t believe the Country Music Association scrubbed any mention of her from their social media after the fact.

No wait, yes I can.  The CMAs are definitely Donald Trump’s America.  Brown people are to be used, but not respected.  All of this is why I’ve never been to a country music concert and why I vet my country music artists in a way that I rarely vet other musicians.  Before I listen to your album, I have to see where you are on the table of equality and in how close proximity you are to racism, bigotry, and feathered bangs.

Like if you don’t know, there was a time in the Country music industry where Natalie Maines and the Dixie Chicks were kind of the lukewarm, last gasp for rebel country. I know we think of modern, New Country as sort of bland, twangy pop-country hits about pickup trucks and white girls in jean cut-offs at the barn dance, but there was a time when country music was kind of subversive. And took on class issues and the disenfranchisement of the working poor and robber barons and even the parasitic country music industry.

But the more rebellious voices of country died out with pop country. And mainstream country musicians got less and less political in the late 80s and on.

So while The Dixie Chicks were never radicals or anything, they didn’t tow the party line either. And in the early 2000s, front woman Natalie Maines lambasted George Bush and his war mongering at a concert in London. Which led to her alienating her fanbase, receiving countless death threats, and to her band (which at the time was literally one of the most influential bands in the industry) disappearing off the map.

So at the CMAs, Beyonce basically singlehandedly revitalized country music, but also the Dixie Chicks. She fucking raised them from the dead. And my very very favorite part is…partway through Daddy Lessons, they all dropped a line from The Dixie Chicks’ song, A Long Time Gone. Not only is it ironic that they’d sing that song to announce their miraculous return to fucking life, but they sang the part that goes “Now they sound tired, but they don’t sound Haggard. They got money but they don’t have Cash. They got Junior but they don’t have Hank–” which was the late 90s-early 2000s Dixie Chicks lament that New Country was shite and had no heart, no soul, no rebels left. They sang that for Beyonce. The Dixie Chicks literally shat on modern country at the CMAs and named Beyonce as its savior.

For those that didnt stay up all night to see the argument that took place after Bronte eviction. Here ya go how it begain but it actually had hours of discussion and tears and more deception that didnt end till 5 this morning when they all finally went to bed … Yes Zaulie and Peech (Paul and Michelle) are sleeping in the same bed. BB18 was lit last night 7/14.
