SAFFRON

Ill-tempered and sarcastic as he is cool headed and quick witted.  He’s surprisingly devoted to his craft for someone who obviously knows their way so well around a knife.

Bright, russet fur and smallish antlers with a long prehensile tail and lithe build.  He has bright orange eyes and puts one in mind of an ungulate.  He has the teeth of a predator, however.  Wears modest, well tailored clothing and carries two pistols and an array of knives.

Tris and Dessa bypassed his surlier side by becoming fast fans of his cooking, willing to try anything and equally as appreciative.

SINGER

Difficult to understand at times, both in words and action.  He’s a bit aloof and bad at social interaction.  He has a very light touch and moves almost like he weighs nothing at all.

As iridescent as the deck of the Nacrenova, he looks like a living opal.  4 ears, 4 eyes, and a long tail with mobility a lot like a cat’s.  He’s covered in small spikes along his spine as well as sporting three longer horns and hooves.  He wears light fabrics that don’t cover much of him, and carries no visible weapons.

On their introductory tour of the ship, Tris cuts herself on some of Dessa’s pokey metal robotic bits. They make their way to the freshly renovated Med Bay, where they meet Doc Black, an Imperator Scorpid. After administering a bandage to the currenthian’s bleeding finger, Dessa insists that she has injured her tail and needs one too.

Doc Black

Straightforward and blunt. A specialist more than a generalist. Has more bedside manner than he thinks, but still isn't always comfortable with direct contact.

Axel

Gentle and bright, with an easy sense of humor and a habit towards paternal worry.  Axel is patient and steady of hand, always available to offer assistance or requested advice.  He loves machines and seems baffled at times by mortal creatures, but no less affectionate towards them.

Average in height for a human male, with shaggy, hastily pulled back hair and a lopsided smile.  His nose is crooked from an old, unset break.  Gangly build and pale skinned, with a series of brightly colored, differently sized spots that travel up his spine and on the tops of his feet.  He has a cybernetic implant instead of his left eye, with several spinning, swappable pieces that aid him in work.

He has a bit of a memory loss problem, the root of which Tris and Leo are working to uncover.

Ca- spee- aAHHN (Caspian)

Occasionally impulsive and obviously young.  He can be difficult to reason with and too blunt when he speaks.  He means well.  Probably.

Dressed plainly.  Carries a series of daggers and a pistol.

Often occupies the crow’s nest on the Nacrenova, and keeps an eye on everyone’s comings-and-goings.

BASTION, Leo’s right-hand man. Boatswain.

Brash and mistrustful.  Extremely loyal once his favor is earned and impressed by displays of brutality either in verbal or physical sparring.  He has an edge to his sense of humor, but doesn’t seem especially mean spirited.  Can be overzealous about carrying out orders, or chucking those who don’t down flights of stairs... or into the void of space.

Sleek and reptilian, with a mouth too stiff and too full of teeth for how eloquently he can speak when he wants to.  Small flares set beneath his eyes that lead down his snoot.  Small webbing at the base of clawed fingers.  Has a tail.  Not as tall as you might think.  Carries two pistols, an axe, and a hammer.

The Pirate Queen Leolyn (Leo)

Captain of the Nacrenova.

Calm, cunning and always interested in things that might peak curiosity over straight monetary gain.  LEO has clawed her way to the top of the pack against stiff competition, both among the internal prestige of sky pirates, and the bounty hunting lists that follow them.  Her friendly and often flippant manner belies a ruthlessness that served her well in that pursuit, and she aims to keep her throne no matter the cost.

Black lips, black/red eyeshadow/markings are a must for her.  A primarily red/black color scheme, either black or red hair.  She’s curvy and maintains a feminine edge, but with a muscle to her that comes from labor and activity that shouldn’t be underestimated.  Carries a pistol and a saber (both fancy.)

Tris and Dessa meet her on Terrapyn while searching for a ship to help them chase the signal from FRED. The duo “talks in straight lines” ... aka... bet on telling Leo the truth, and she agrees to their mutually beneficial stipulations:

Leo can keep the treasure.

Dessa just wants to touch it.

Tris “needs this to be important.”

The treasure map — insistently named “FRED” by Dessa.

After some late night deliberation, Tris settles on it being an acronym for “Far-Reaching Electrical Device,” as she discovers its ability to electrically communicate and lead them towards a very distant location in space in search of an ancient artifact known as the GOD’S WATCH. 

...a location that Dessa’s small ship won’t be able to reach on its own.

TRIS the Currenthian grad student who wasn’t able to wrestle the artifact from the thief that plundered the dig site. But when the thief returns and needs someone to read the map, she allows herself to be “kidnapped” and brought along… on the one condition she gets the opportunity to be the one to document and publish all their findings.

Acting on a tip from a contact in Terrapyn, the thief DESSA makes her way to the planet CURRENT to steal a treasure map. But when she can’t read it, she returns to convince the anthropologist she stole it from to help her, by hook or by crook.

The MOBIUS STRIP, so called because of its well-tread nature, is the main ring of inhabited planets in the Spiral System. In between natural planets have cropped up a number of satellites and space stations, once workstations or temporary housing structures, they’ve gained popularity in the last couple of centuries as permanent residences, and with the advance in technology making them easier to construct in ever larger sizes, they’ve become completely customizable mini-planets.  For the richer citizens, anyway.

At the far end of the System is TERRAPYN, a colony station that has been transformed over the years into a haven for those seeking shelter from prying eyes.  Criminals and refugees, vigilantes and survivors.  It sits just outside the realm of most naval jurisdiction.  Technically within reach, but not practically worth the effort.  Or the potential danger of raiding it.
