Day 6/60 of learning basic Korean because I made a bet with my friend, loser buys malatang 🍜 Total Hours Spent: 2.5
What I did today: Went through all of How To Study Korean's Unit 1 Lesson 2. I wrote out some example sentences of my own to try and capture grammar and meaning perfectly and checked my answers. I'm also narrating these back to myself by imagining I'm in a certain situation and how I'd respond to a person who asks me a certain question. Specifically, I learned about "to have," and "to be" (location). I also learned basic prepositions to go alongside the "to be" (location) verb (used as an adjective) Example: If the question is "Where is my pen?" My answer: "I have the pen. The pen is at the school" That would be: 저는 펜이 있어요. 펜은 학교에 있어요. (YAY I GOT IT RIGHT) Super basic, but enough to get the message across clearly and get a feel for speaking comfortably. I also noticed that I started reading character blocks more comfortably (YAY!!) but I do have trouble with some blocks that have Batchim, esp with double consonants that have a pronunciation simplification when Korean people speak I'm still very scared of the June 11th deadline I set for myself to hop on Discord and start talking with natives/higher level learners. As long as I got some minimal vocab and the grammar basics down + key phrases, I think I can go in without getting as flamed as I did on day 3 :D

I made 3 pages of basic notes. Now that I can read the alphabet and learned pronunciation rules, I stopped romanizing my words. Also I got down some basic vocab, more basic phrases that I can use to clarify speaking with Korean people, and grammar rules. Specifically "to be" and Subject/Object particles
My plan is to go home and do some messing around on google translate where i make up my sentences and see if I wrote them right. Then i'm gonna talk to myself a little and narrate my day the best i can

I love this one project idea I came up with: Have you ever struggled with interviews? Do you get anxiety asking your friends to give you mock interviews, and struggle with coming up with answers yourself, without personalized feedback? An agentic website that leverages Gemini could help you interview. As you type your responses as code comments, it gives you feedback much like how a real interviewer would. It would prompt you in the right direction, recommend hints, point out the existence of syntax errors, etc. The benefit: it's real time aid. Just like a real person, without having to bother someone you know in real life. It's tailored just for you and your learning style, and it gets better at helping you the more you use it (understands the points you struggle at)
Would I ever try to profit off of this? No. Would I ever try to market this to anyone other than my friends (if this actually works)? No. This is just for me and to help me be better :)

Today I went to my research lab meeting and worked on a plan for the week to actually start implementing some chain of thought reasoning into our RAG ai model, and now I plan on getting up to speed with my finance and statistics lectures

Academic update: I finally received an interview for a FAANG+ company at a point in my academic career where I feel that I could possibly pass, so it's time to get on with the coding prep again. I'm gonna start from the top of the Neetcode 150 list and document every single problem I do in a spreadsheet Life update: I went out to dinner with my boyfriend then discovered I was sick when I got home, so I've done nothing but sleep and drink lots of fluids to recover
