I don't have words. People harassed Syundei (mangaka of Go For It, Nakamura-kun!! and Total Eclipse of the Eternal Heart) so much for her work that she deleted her twitter. She's been quietly existing, occasionally posting art, enjoying things like Cult of the Lamb and sometimes making fanart, and seemed to be enjoying the anime adaptation of her work as it released, and folks who don't like her work and could have just moved on with their lives have been so shitty about her creative freedom that she has deleted her twitter.
Ganbare is pretty damn chaste. It's what a lot of people claim to want. It has been held up as a beloved story in the community for years. And folks treat the person who made it like this. Folks who claim that the more "wholesome" anime is "better" think harassing the real person who made the thing in the first place is a great idea and aligns so well with the "wholesome" "ideal".
Syundei has health problems that make it harder to work, and that's why volume 3 of Ganbare hasn't released yet. And now this stuff, in a time Syundei should have been happily celebrating a great achievement.
Plenty of folks are new to BL and the anime is likely their first step in the genre, and that's fine, everyone has to start somewhere. But rather than insisting you know everything about the genre and what it is or should be (which many people have done with both this and The Other World's Books Depend on the Bean Counter and Heated Rivalry and basically every recent popular m/m thing) and seeing something you don't like and insisting it shouldn't exist, maybe avoid it and look for other things. Not all art is for you. There is plenty out there for you to try if you like instead of harassing one person who makes stuff you don't.
This isn't the first time Syundei has nuked her accounts, so she might be back. But things are a bit different in 2026 than they were in ~2019. Obviously toxicity existed then, but it's been particularly vitriolic lately.
I'm not sure how to send words of support to Syundei. Contacting Seven Seas, who publishes some of her works in English, to ask that they communicate words of encouragement might help. Maybe, if you haven't already, buy a copy of Syundei's books to support her:
Go For It, Nakamura-kun!! Volume 1 and Volume 2
Total Eclipse of the Eternal Heart
Fans have also started a tag to post supportive messages on twitter.
Update: If your response to this post is "fuck BL fans", fuck you. Most of the people stirring up shit about the manga aren't BL fans anyway. And I don't say that as "no real BL fan would do this". I repeatedly see people who criticize the manga state they don't read BL.
