eddie checks his phone, sees that buck is at a restaurant and he doesn’t remember buck telling him he had any plans with his sister, so who is he out with at a nice restaurant? eddie suggest to marisol that they go out for dinner, he knows this nice place. he tries his best to act surprised that he sees buck there. he’s relieved because buck is just with tommy, there’s nothing to worry about. what is there to worry about anyways, he’s not sure.

so in 9x11 when chris doesn’t get off the bus, who does he call? BUCK!

buck says “sold” and while the camera moves back eddie closes his eyes and nods in a way that makes him look almost disappointed. like he’s almost sad that it worked.

They’re outside on the back patio, it’s pouring, Buck’s fairy lights are on. They’re not speaking, just listening to the sounds of the rain and each other’s breathing. Finding comfort in the silence of one another.

Eddie looks at Buck.

Buck looks at Eddie.

They’re still not speaking, just looking. There’s something in their eyes, that something that’s been their countless times, and yet neither of them have ever noticed. Something that’s been building for a long time.

Soft music begins to play.

They both step forward at the same time. They kiss like they’ve both been waiting for too long.

The music stops. All that can be heard is the sound of the rain. The same sound that Eddie heard while trying to keep Buck alive. The same sound that Buck heard while trying to dig Eddie from the ground. But this time, there is no fear, no worry, no pain, only love.

The music resumes.

the whole episode is themed around secrets, given the title. so there’s hen and her illness, the chastity belt couple in the beginning, the secret of bucks dates being married.

and a secret baby! a child being the thing that brings these two essentially strangers together!! in a super fucking queer episode about both buck and eddie struggling in forming the kinds of relationships they want!!

i think it serves as a very important reminder that you can in fact be a gay man and have loved a woman. it’s possible! we’ve seen it!

For Eddie to make the conscious decision to get Buck a necklace that, in a way, matches his own. A necklace that Shannon gifted him, a necklace that has tied him to his life and to his child.

It would be a very obvious and direct parallel, but also this little thing connecting Eddie and Buck—both connected to their sons by chains around their necks. It’s even more beautiful when you consider the whole patron saints of soldiers/travelers of it all.
