Ingo was Ben’s cat. Ingo passed away a month or so ago. Ben had him for a long time...like since 9th or 10th grade, I think. (Ben will be 29 next month. And that just made me feel really old!) It’s always hard to lose a pet - even when it’s your grandcat. Ingo lived much of his life here with us before we became empty nesters. I am struggling to come up with the right thing to say for today. I’m at a loss. I never dreamed I would lose my Daddy to suicide. I honestly don’t know if there were signs to warn us or not. Looking back...I’m still just not sure. Over 7 years later. Folks, if you have even the most minute inkling that something is not right with a friend or a loved one, say something. Talk to them. Let them know you are there. That you care about them. That you love them. Need them. And listen to them. Really listen. Get them the help they need. Even if it makes them angry. Hold tightly to the people you love. My prayer is that no one else would ever choose to end their own life. That no one else would ever be told a loved one took their own life. Until that day comes, my prayers are with those who are walking through this right now. A couple days ago, I went through a drawer that obviously hadn’t been done in a while. I came across this stuck in the very back. It’s Olin’s handwriting. I opened it and the little flowers in the second picture fell out. Then I read it and some tears fell out. 😭 I took it to Olin and I couldn’t even get all the words out to tell him to read it. This was from 1993 or 1994 because Ben and Dylan we’re here, but Austin wasn’t. Austin arrived shortly after Mother’s Day in 1994. I’m not sure what the significance of “Can’t Touch This” played in some inside joke at the time. I can remember song lyrics...inside jokes, not so much. The scribbles from the boys are everything! 😍 And you’ve gotta give mad props to Olin for the artwork AND the Hallmark barcode.
