How To Love: A Poem for Beginners
choose your biggest insecurity
and tell them
melt into into the way
they tell you you’re still
sweet as sundaes on a summer day.
now ask yourself if you’d
choose them every day?
if the answer is yes,
proceed to the next question.
will you also choose yourself?
if you answered no,
you will never love your love.
Instead you’ll love the title,
making their happiness your happiness
and people do not make
a good source of happiness…
unless that person is yourself.
love is patient, love is kind,
love is tired of this
“two halves of a whole” romanticism.
How to Love.
love yourself and share that love with them
find happiness in yourself and share that
do not form dependency
because it will only tear you down
you do not need to be needed to be a person
your importance comes from yourself
experiences come from yourself
choose your friends, choose your happiness.
chose to share.
love isn’t going to shake the window and walls
love is your favorite pair of socks that happens to go with your outfit that day.
love is not becoming one with another
love is not two halves becoming a whole
you are a whole on your own
you are only sharing your experiences
you are giving someone a taste
of your happiness but not giving them
the spoon to stir the batter.
how to love, a quick guide:
one. love yourself
two. share.
