So tonight (5/29/16) my boyfriend, a bunch of his other friends, and I, were all going to see a midnight movie which I had never done before so I was already Leary of the idea but I thought really nothing of it. My boyfriend has his permit, and so when he picked me up his mom was in the passenger seat and I was in the back seat on the drivers side holding his dog who was with us as well. We had gotten to the movie theater and it was about an hour and a half before the movie was actually going to start and his other friends weren't there yet. So I said that we should go into the movie theater and wait in the arcade for the others since it was late on a holiday weekend (memorial Day), it was starting to rain, and his mom should probably be getting home. He said no and insisted that we go to one of the local stores in the same shopping center as the theater. I was concerned but went along with the idea. When we pulled into one of the bigger parking lots, 2 of his friends came speeding up on the other side of the parking lot, egging on my boyfriend to race them and speed with them. When that happened, the other drivers judgement was that my boyfriend was going to be making a sharp turn and miss him. However, instead my boyfriends judgement was to hit the breaks assuming that the other driver was going to make a sharp turn as well. When they both miscommunicated, they both slammed on their breaks and hit eachother at about 45-50 mph. Thankfully no one got seriously injured besides myself, which I have a serious concussion, mild whiplash, and a few minor injuries to the muscles on my sides. Otherwise, there was a few bumps and bruises but nothing fatal. Both cars on the other hand, ended up totaled. The other driver lost his license or will be loosing his license. And although this will not go on my boyfriends record and the other drivers insurance will pay for him to get a new car, this is a lesson well learned. If he would have listened to me, we would've been safe in the movie theater but instead someone ended up seriously hurt and now neither of them have cars. Also, don't do something stupid. The other driver was speeding and egging him on, there was no reason for that. This accident could have easily taken someone's life as to their truck almost caught on fire with the oil leak from the impact and our car almost flipped and would have with a little more speed to the other car. Thank god everyone is safe now though.
