The saddest part is that in America, you don’t learn about this side of history until college, and even then, you don’t have to take that course.

I had to take a Modern American History course and we learned about all the dark pieces of American history, such as: 

Wounded Knee (the largest mass shooting in American History where the US army killed thousand of innocent Native Americans)

Black Code (Racist laws that were put in place after the Civil War in order to target and systematically punish former slaves)

That after the Internment Camps during WW2, that there is still the power to bring them to target a specific group of people if they are ‘deemed a potential national threat’.

How the Black Panthers actually did a lot of good for African American communities since they weren’t wanting to wait for the US Government to help (they set up daycares, free breakfasts, medical services, etc)

How much dark, shady, illegal stuff that went on during the Cold War and how the US should’ve been charged with war crimes during the Vietnam War.

While the ‘Red Scare’ of Communism was going on, there was also the ‘Lavender Scare’ for the LGBT community.

How after the 70s, the era of minorities rising up, trying to be heard, there was the pushback in the 80s of the ‘Silent Majority’ (the same concept that lead to our current political situation)
