Nat - 23 - Any Pronouns This is a blog where I design alterations of the characters in Left 4 Dead based off of each other! I do them by request, and there are several methods. Swaps and Mash-Ups are my only two that Iāve done so far, but Iām considering adding Fusions and Mutations. The characters are my favorite part of the game, and I somewhat consider this an intense form of a character study! I may do doodles of former and future designs and personalities as well.

Hellooo š„ŗ politely asking for a Coach and Bill mashup
Itās been 6 months exactly since my last upload, sorry for the wait! I admit there was a bit of a reason for the delay on this oneā¦ I actually didnāt advertise mash-ups.
Swaps are when one character takes on the character role of another, while mash-ups are the two characters as one person. I wasnāt sure if i should draw Bill as Coach or Coach as Bill, and I didnāt want to disappoint. I do have experience in making mashups/fusions, though, so I figured I might as well give what you asked for, since I thought it would be cool even if it was a misunderstandingā¦ and since I made you wait for so longā¦.. I mashed the whole casts of l4d1&2 intoā¦ i guess left 4 dead one-and-a-half?

Since this asker also pointed out that they were interested in mashing their personalities specifically in the past, Iāll also go into detail on how I picture them acting ^^ I also did doodles anytime i got tired or stuck with the mash-ups, you can also find them under the cut <3
Coach+William Overbeck (Mashup nameā¦ Vet?) -
Perspective : This vet is very kind-spirited but very protective of the trio he finds himself working with. He wants to see all of them make it to the other side, and if that means risking his own life, heās ready to put it on the line. He expresses this by frequently checking on the health and well-being of the others, commanding them around in dire situations, putting his body between his pinned teammates and the infected if he has to, and teaching them survival skills that help outside of combat, in case they wind up without him.
Granddad Friend? : Since the second-oldest person on the team is deceptively irresponsible, heās completely taking the slack of the caretaker role for the whole dang team. He is willing to be mean and go above the others if he thinks theyāre being irresponsible with their own lives. Like Bill, he is fully willing to leave people behind so long as the three are safe, and also like Bill he WILL minimize your injuries a little if it means you keep moving forward. (āIf youāre not bleeding out, youāre not allowed to cryā moments)
Humor : Like Coach, heās got good humor when the situation calls for itā¦ as soon as things get serious, though, he drops the jokes and smiles entirely. Heāll make jokes about his favorite foods and whatever silly situation deserves a little chuckle, so long as everyone is alive and well for it. Sure, comedy heals all wounds, but sometimes you need to focus and get out of the situation before you can try to fix things. He has a BIG laugh and is very receptive when the others joke with each other.
Religion : A practicing Christian like Coach, he will sometimes mention it when he feels the situation calls for it (including chastising people for cursing despite swearing ALL the time. Bill says Bitch a lot, but Coach says Shit more than anyone else in the game!)ā I could see him doing other things like the āvalley of the shadow of deathā prayer from the Swamp Campaign.
School Colors? : Admittedly inaccurate, thereās not a single school in Georgia with a green and purple color scheme. In my defense, Coachās school is three hours away from Savannah and he keeps saying he ālives around hereā in the beginning first campaign, so...
Medical History : With Bill and Coachās combined histories and backgrounds, theyāre in a bit of a worse condition than either were originally. Bill, with his injury in the war and age, combined with Coachās knee injury that was bad enough to knock him out of sportsā¦ Itās never specified which knees either injured, but I actually considered cutting one off entirely in case they hurt the same one. This is all without mentioning Billās canon PTSD, which carried over since this is a combination of both characters. He uses a variety of things to improve his mobility and comfort, sometimes even using a wheelchair when theyāre available and someone else on the team is willing to carry it when the landscape becomes inaccessible.
Smoking : An addiction he took steps to successfully break a long, long time ago to be a good example to the students he taught. He only started again when he realizedā¦ this really was the end of the world has he knew it. It helps with the pain in his joints, too. He still refuses giving any to the other three.
Nick+Francis (Mashup name probably Frick) -
Perspective : A gambler and a biker with a bit of a history of getting into scrapes and other dangerous situations, he has learned absolutely no lessons except when to start running away. In past experiences, he found he was better off working on his own, and brushed off positive experiences with teams as āonly a matter of timeā or exceptions. He usually just looks out for himself, but heās realizing that this situation genuinely requires cooperationā¦ and that he likes knowing that the others are there for him.
Infected! : While we know all of the protagonists are carriers, we donāt actually know if all of them have caught the green flu before they all meet! However, since Francis and Nick are suggested to have a very similar intro to the apocalypse, itās very VERY likely that Mr. Frick here is the first of the group to actually carry the disease, and that he catches it before the infection becomes a local problem.
Irresponsible : He will immediately use something on a whim if heās trusted with anything. This includes eating any snacks in his bag, drinking all the water in a bottle meant for the group, and taking pills on an instinct the first moment something bothers him. Is it selfishness? Not really, he just doesnāt think when he thinks heās been provided a quick fix.
Graying : He is actively graying and it would be visible if he didnāt dye itā¦ though he kind of got the wrong color. He doesnāt want to talk about it.
Picking Favorites? : He has a favorite teammate, and he only pretends he doesnāt because it means he likes them in general. His favorite is Rochelle&Louis by a long shot, mostly because theyāre the most fun to talk to and seem to be on the same wavelength as him. But in likeā¦ a way that balances him out. It confuses him.
Rochelle+Louis (Mashup name likely Louchelle bc i like it) -
Perspective : To this mash-up, there is always a silver lining, even if you have to force it into existence. The power of positive thinking can go a long way, and theyāll be the first to remind the team pessimists that though this is the end of the world it isnāt the end. And then they get roasted for saying that, and have to verbally fight for their life.
Sarcasm and Banter : They will meet every roast with an equal or slightly greater burn. Bickering with Nick+Francis usually ends with a verbal murder on one of their sides, and theyāre kind of lucky both of them are so quick to laugh it off.
Need for Normality : Out of all of the mash-ups, theyāre the most insistent that they continue following the pre-apocalypse rules as well. That does not mean theyāre always considering it, like theyāll trespass like crazy and take when they need it, but they donāt like it when their teammates steal from homes or small businesses. It kind of hurts to imagine the family that theyāre taking from, even if theyāre likely all dead.
Theater Kid : They can PROJECT like nobodyās business! Theyāre so good at making sure their voice carries, itās kind of hard to stop! Which is bad when thereās a witch in the area, but boy can they verbalize when they have a problem of some kind. Also, from a history of being the one to manage things on a stage, theyāre incredibly good at rephrasing Billās directions when heās a bit more vague.
Anxiety : Quick to startle, easy to concern, and overall the most generally confused by the more hectic natures of the other three. They donāt understand why the others are so ready to just drop everything and make the worst choice just for the hell of it, but it is NOT helping their fears.
Ellis+Zoey (Mashup name either Elley or Zellis) -
Perspective : A college student considering dropping out and relieved that now they donāt have to think about it anymore! Theyāre happiest when theyāre not thinking about anythingā especially not have screwed over the worldās gotten. Any reminder of how they donāt know the situation their closest friends are in (and likely saw their family die) will close them off from the group, making them snippy and reserved until the others can get the humor back into them. Itās not intentional, itās depression and fear for the future. Theyāre always ready to call the Francis&Nick mash-up for his bullshit.
Apocalypse Prep : What Zoey and Ellis have in common is that they had very similar reactions to learning about the Green Fluā that being shutting off the world and preparing the only way they knew how. While Zoey consumed a bunch of zombie movies in a depressed fugue state until her parents died when the infection became public, Ellis tricked-up a truck and used it to ram into zombies until one almost killed him, and their mash-up was probably doing both.
Short but Mighty! : Smallest of the team but can absolutely hold just about every other team member over their head. Theyād absolutely love to show off how many gasoline canisters they can carry at one time, then trip and spill everything everywhere. Probably said they could beat a charger at an arm wrestling contest once.
Keith Stories : Expanded to include other friends and family members, this mash-up keeps Keith and will talk about him and others all the time.
Team Child : Are they 21? Yes, but do they act like it? Not really. Itās easier to see them as a teenager than a student with a full-time job, especially since they never act like it. Their open gullibility does not help.
Iād add more notes, but Iāve been doing this for awhile and I still have finals due. As I mentioned before, Iāve done mash-ups in the past and I had a LOT of fun doing them again, so if there are any other mash-ups youād be interested in, Iād love to hear it! (Difference between mash-ups and swaps: you can mash more than two people at onceā¦) I still have finals the day this is going to be posted, but that also means I have break for the next three weeks!

First off, I want to thank you guys! Iāve gotten so many asks since my last character swap and Iām so excited to do all of them! This one wasnāt the first one I got out of them, just the one I had the most ideas for (plus, eyesoverinfinity is a return asker).
Since Billās main descriptor is that heās a veteran specifically, the goal was to consider what would push someone like Louis into active duty, how would they walk away from that, and what would their goals be after itā especially at his age. I figured that he would be someone who joined the military for āsmartā reasons, originally with the intention getting into a good school through his time in the military. There are a lot of military programs that pay for college, or give experience and act as an internship. I think he joined the military not expecting to see active duty and got suddenly flung into it. Similar to Bill, I think an injury is what got him discharged, one that had him had him in and out of the hospital for a good while after returning home. He eventually got his life back on course, either got a job at a university, got into a university, or bothā either way heās chugging along and was doing pretty well. And then the apocalypse happened.e
Despite these events, his cheerful outlook on life hasnāt been visibly shaken. His goal is not only to keep his team alive, but to keep the others with him happy as well, not daring to show how worried he actually is until heās alone. He realized moral was incredibly important in what someone is willing to do, and an unhappy team is more likely to give up. His leadership skills are more advanced, but in a way thatās meant to keep the people around him moving. Heād be able to push back against the team pessimist more so than canon Louis does, and will try to get conversation to happen if the group has been quiet for too long. Heād be more involved with banter than Bill, but he mainly aims for people to look to the future rather than the past, avoiding conversation about things from before the apocalypse. An ultimate goal-getter, he would be dedicated to figuring out ways that they can live normally and find positives to every fallen camp (āWell, now we know how Not to do it!ā) or stroke of bad luck (āWe tried our best, we need to keep going.ā) I imagine that like Bill, and despite his optimistic words, he would also not slow the train down for the doctor in the Sacrifice comic, though heād do more to try to prevent anyone from being off the train before it starts moving. He doesnāt want to admit it out loud, but once a situation is beyond saving, he kind of gives up on it.
In summary, heās cheerful and inclusive around others, but very pessimistic about the world when alone.
Now hereās the swapās name ā Louis as Bill is Lloyd. Louis means famous warrior, William means protector among other things. I see Lloyd as a good combination of the two, meaning sacred, but also gray-haired. I think bringing up the hair is good since one of the meanings of William is helmet.

Early on I was anxious about doing this one because I wasnāt sure what I wanted to do with the swap. Rochelle and Francis and equal parts alike and different, with both of them being snarky and really fun and aside from general vibe, the similarities ending about there. The way that I consider the swaps is what would a character be like in the position of another, so fro this I consider Rochelle in the role of ātheā biker. I consider that role to be a character who is tough, stubborn, and chaotic. Even with this consideration, I think a lot of her personality would mesh wellā since sheās friendly, quippy, and overall really clever. I think even in his role, sheād be a lot more responsible than Francis, and the pair would probably start the apocalypse in very, very different mannersā¦ Largely because I can not imagine Rochelle thinking she can get away with Francisās āIām a copā thing (which he also canāt get away with). I wanted her design to stay close to pink, and decided sheād probably be happy to coordinate her outfit to look kind of fancy. She also gets Francisās half-life reference.
Sheād absolutely be a character with running bits, like Francisās āI hate (thing)ā bit. I think sheād be able to bounce off of just about every character really well, the downside is it wouldnāt make sense for her to be a āstraightmanā in the bits anymore. It wouldnāt be often that the hectic biker would point out that someone else is being weird. However, cutting off that slack does allow her to find a spotlight in being supportive and lovable, and then have her drop into serious when things get rough. It gives her reactions to things a depth that she would be losing in losing her ability to be the quote-unquote ānormalā character in the room. In the base game, Rochelle has never used a gun before, however I think Iām going to keep that honor for her role in the swaps, this Rochelle has experience. I dunno. I think sheād be lovely and a lot of fun to be around. I also donāt think a lot of Louisās banter with Francis would work with her, but I think they could find something else to squabble about.
As I mentioned in my last post, I came up with names for the swapsā Rochelle as Francis is named Fleur largely because of meanings. Rochelle and Francis are both names based in the frenchā Francis means Frenchman, Rochelle comes from the name of a city in France. So with that combination, Fleur is named that for the fleur-de-lis, which is a pretty French symbol last I checked.

I had a great time working on this/thinking about this! Nick and Coach have very different personalities and likeā¦ professions in general, so itās interesting to consider. I donāt think Nick would have done football, he doesnāt seem like the type to build muscle easy, and I dunno enough about sports to assign him a new one. I settled on either baseball or hockey in the end, thus the hockey stick (lowkey cuz his voice actor is Canadian) Also I was going to assign him to another subject other than āgymā but i couldnāt think of anything so heās just the gym teacher everyone thinks has killed someone before, i guess.
I do think heād slot into the āteam dadā role pretty easy, but I lowkey wanna say he was still a criminal for some time before becoming a teacher. He probably wouldnāt be much more optimistic than base game Nick is, except THIS time heās not a jerk about it! Could see him exiting a safe house asking everyone if they ate something before they left or being more insistent about characters healing themselves when passing them medical supplies. I think heās still pretty new-ish to the coaching job, so he doesnāt have all the experience youād think someone navigating the zombie apocalypse would need, but I donāt think heād slot into an immediate leadership role right off the bat anyways so that gives him some time to get used to the team.
I think he should inherit Coachās record as the left 4 dead character to say āshitā the most. He deserves it. Also think he refers to people primarily with nicknames rather than their actual names, probably cuz he forgot them and is afraid to ask.

1. Every character in l4d has Ellisās personality and traits. Itās just 8 hick chatterboxes and no one else surviving the zombie apocalypse. The universe has decided to screw over everyone else. They keep telling stories and going way off topic in conversation.
Or!
2. Ellis replaces everyone. Now thereās veteran Ellis, college student Ellis, retail worker Ellis, dirty crime boy Ellis, reporter Ellis, teacher Ellis, punk gang Ellis and regular flavor Ellis all tryingto ignore that they have the exact same name and face. In this I guess the special infected would also be Ellis. Itās all Ellis.
... option number 2 is admittedly the reason why Iām trying to name all the possible combinations.
I canāt explain why this is the third āas Ellisā combination in a row aside from heās got a fun personality. Anyways, hereās Zoey as Ellis! The two are already pretty likeminded in their approach to their passions, so not much of a change in appearanceā though I imagine she would be a bit more dirty than him just because I can see her wearing the same clothes for days in a row.
Left 4 Dead except I mix and match the personalities/lives of the characters at terminal velocities and instead of being simple about it and just being like āhehe Coach but heās in a suit and Angyā I overthink about how having other characterās lifestyles with their initial personalities may reflect and affect them naturally. Also I give them new names for no reason sometimes...
Anyways, hereās Nick but Ellis as a āpreviewā I guess...
