The “Princess of Camelot” Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy was a Calvin Klein businesswoman and ‘90s It-Girl. The willowy, soft-spoken blonde was often compared to her late mother-in-law, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Carolyn was already well-acquainted in the celebrity world by the time she met her future husband, lawyer John F. Kennedy Jr. in 1992 (while he was dating actress Daryl Hannah). After the two became a pair in 1994 and got married in 1996, they became tabloid targets and sent the media into a frenzy. They were constantly stalked and paparazzi even recorded entire conversations between the two. Carolyn did not deal well with the stress; she refused interviews, turned down modelling jobs, and allegedly took up cocaine. However she also became known for her charity work and role as a hostess at political events during this time period. Tragically, Carolyn’s life was cut short when she, her husband, and her older sister Lauren Bessette were all killed in a plane accident on July, 16, 1999. John was the pilot. The accident was believed to be caused by The Kennedy Curse. Today Carolyn is remembered for her minimalistic chic fashion and is the muse for various fashion brands. She was also the characterization inspiration for Rosamund Pike’s portrayal of Amy Elliott-Dunne in Gone Girl.
