Still life

For this image i placed Jack underneath a tree to get some unusual light coming through onto his face and used a reflector to reflect the light back onto his face and get a nice catchlight in his eyes which really make this image. 

For this image i placed Dylan being a set of pillars where the light was bleeding through, this worked well as i was able to flag the light coming through onto his face. This image works well as you are focused on the model and the pillars create depth leading from the foreground to the background. 

For the third image i placed my model amongst the trees so that i was able to get some light coming through, i defused the light as i felt like there was too much direct light on his face. I used a shallow depth of field to completely throw out the background and stay focused on the models face. 

Harry Benson’s photograph of the Beatles having a pillow fight.

Harry Benson positioned himself at the end of the bed and used a wide angle lens so that he was able to get all of the members of the band in the frame. Harry took many photos during this pillow fight to get the perfect shot of them fooling around in the hotel room. This is a really unique and different photograph as it shows a different side of the band that you don't normally get to see. 

Self Portrait 

For my project “who are you?” i wanted to show my passion for photography by shooting my self portrait inside a photo booth. My aim was to make the photograph look very dark with a lot of tone and contrast with the lights from inside the photo booth shining on my face. 

Location

For my location shot i closed the curtains to show the photo booth. i used an extended depth of field to make sure that the full image was sharp from front to back.

Object

For this image i look to express my interest for photography by taking a photograph of my picture from the Photo Booth. i used a shallow depth of field to make the object the main focus point.

Canvas

With some research into clean white photography i was able to get ideas to use for my clean white photographs. 

With research into the brief “Catch me if you can” i found various skills and techniques used by many different photographers to capture some of the best sporting pictures in the world. 

I’ve always had a strong passion for photography but it grew even more on me when i took a trip to New York when I was still very young and didn't have much knowledge on the skills and techniques used in photography. 

My passion for photography then grew when i had the opportunity to do a weeks work experience with Rangers football club. I got the chance to shoot match days, press conferences and training sessions. This was a great learning curve for me as it varied and expanded my knowledge on photography. I also had the chance to do a weeks work experience with a free lance photographer called Iain Mclean. This helped me a lot as a photographer as i was able to see how a free lance photographer works in the field and i was able to pick up on many skills and techniques.

I love taking pictures and i have done since i was young, i love to look back at the photographs that i have taken and relive the moment and There is always a story behind an image and i enjoy looking at different photographs. I always go to galleries in the GOMA and in street level photoworks. This is very important as i am still young and learning and picking up on different skills and techniques.   

After research into sphere photography i came across many different style and techniques from shallow depth of field, extended depth of field, frozen movement, exaggerated movement and panning.

With research into natural light portraits i found a few images that demonstrate different skills and techniques with flagging and natural light seeking through the window. 

Triptych research:

A triptych is made up of three pictures distinctly separated from each other. After lots of research into different triptych self portraits. I have found various different styles and techniques to go ahead with my “who am I?” triptych self portrait project.

Here are a few examples of triptych self portraits:

Henri Huet was a French war photographer born April 4th 1927 in Rennes France. Huet was most known for covering the Vietnam war for associated press. Huet was mentored by lab director Charles E Thomas who was also a combat photographer in WWII.

Henri Huet studied at the school of art in Rennes and started his career as a painter. He later joined the French navy and trained to be a photographer documenting the Vietnam war. After his service he was discharged by the navy but became a civilian photographer working for the French and American governments.  

This photograph was taken by Henri Huet during the Vietnam war. This clearly shows his work of being a combat photographer during the war. This photo is very interesting as your eye is drawn to the helicopter in the foreground and the ground soldier. The soldiers go from the foreground to the background of the photograph which makes it very interesting as it gives the photograph depth.

I like this photograph because it shows a clear indication of the conditions and what lengths the soldiers had to go through. The soldiers act as a leading line from the foreground to the background creating depth and atmosphere within the photograph.

This portrait of a soldier during the Vietnam war expresses his feeling on war.  I like this photograph as Henri Huet uses a wide aperture to keep the soldier in focus and create a shallow depth of field.

Henri Huet uses rule of thirds in this photograph to make sure that the Vietnimees child the main focal point, i like how Huet has shot this photograph as he uses a very wide aperture allowing him to have a shallow depth of field. I like Huet’s composition in this photograph as he keeps the soldier in the background but still leaves the child in focus.
