A Therian
A therian is “A member of the contemporary subculture of therianthropy, based on a spiritual or psychological identification, or both, with animals.” -Wikipedia

This definition is the basic way to explain Therianthropy, but it does go deeper than this. Therians are complex, in that no two are ever completely alike, not only with their identity but with how they explore their theriotypes, whether or not they experience shifts, and how strong of a connection they have to themselves on this level. .
There are different classifications of therians as well, which include the following.

🌸 Psychological Therian - Someone who feels their identity is a result of a neurological abnormality, or is part of their personality. They do not feel their theriotype has any correlation to a past life, but rather their identity is a result of who they are as a person in this life, on an emotional or physiological level.

🌹 Spiritual Therian - Someone who feels their identity is a result of spiritual attachment and interconnectedness on an ethereal level. They believe that their identity is formulated as a result of reincarnation, soul misplacement, or another means where they feel they are this being on a spiritual level. They do not feel that their identity is due to any neurological or (generally) personality related factors.

🍂 Contherian - Someone who does not experience shifts, because they are constantly shifted into their theriotype. This shift can be of any variation, and is not limited to one kind of shift. These therians do not generally feel more human or more animalistic depending on emotions, settings, etc. as shifting therians do.

🌺 Suntherian - Someone who, similarly to the Contherian, is almost constantly shifted into their non-human identity, but who may experience very minor, subtle shifts between theriantrhopic and human emotions, sensations, etc.

🌷 Cladotherian - Someone who does not identify as a subspecies or Specific non-human entity, but rather an entire species, or ‘clade’. This means instead if identifying as a singular polar bear, this therian would identify as the entirety of the Ursidae species.

🍁 Polytherian - Someone who has more than one theriotype, and where all entities play dominant roles in their identity, and of which neither are cameo shifts, head mates, totem animals, etc.
Please note that many people are combinations of these definitions. For example, someone may be a psychological Cladotherian, or they may feel that their identity is both psychological and spiritual.
