how do I feel feel about the "fetishistic" aspect of the community?

Fair to say I fucking hate it... We fight to be treated like people... But then we're just yet again, not treated like people and rather just.....really sexualised and we can only be like the relationships to other people's liking and interpretations because if we don't THATS when people get icky about us. Like what!? There is definitely a fetishised side to all gay ships I've seen, and it has been quite rampant in the byler community as of recently even if people don't wanna admit it. People genuinely policing how queer people should be as if we aren't humans and just like, puppets on a string for people's entertainment.

I also have seen this lawless byler stuff and uh, I'm not the biggest fan of a lot of it, this might get a bit explicit, but I wanna talk about these sort of aspects I really disprove of as it's become a big part of my criticism towards byler fans (I love byler but it's just... Eugh)

Can I just start off by saying how much I fucking hate that it's called lawless byler? It's just gay people having sex. We're like any other people having sex just with the same anatomy why is it such a big deal? why does it need such a glorified name? Why is treated like the holy grail of gay sex? What does LAWLESS even imply? Because it does seem like there's been a lot of laws to it.

I don't like how fast people jumped on to it as soon as the characters turned 18 as well. It was so jarring. And it was also just so telling because... Is that really how people see us in the end? Something to get off too? Something to squeal over for your own entertainment?

It's like all the really refreshing stuff I've seen of byler just went up in flames.

Not to mention that whole top and bottom discourse surrounding it because holy shit the stories I've seen!? The harassment of people liking a different dynamic? The takes such as like oh wills fem so he has to bottom and oh will has trauma so he has to top or oh mike can't top because look at his figure oh mike has to bottom because look at him and so many other takes that get so much more graphic and detailed ITS ACTUALLY TERRIFYING! I DONT LIKE IT! Tell me the characters wouldn't be like, at least a bit appalled from how much people dictate them in this manor

But people just get so.... Horrible about it? Harrasing? Mischaracterising? Do I need to go on I think I've made my point, overall not the biggest fan of how hylers have went about this

My last answer I feel covers the pleasuring purposes.... The whole cutesifying and like, mischaracterising the characters to the point it's just how YOU want them to be? I hate it... I've seen stuff where their genuinely just trying to change byler into a straight dynamic or... Their just hating on the other characters, or their missing the points and dynamics and making the whole show about them, the list goes on, and I think people will know what else i don't like atp (at least I hope they do, because please question me more if you don't)

It's all so fetishy and it's so invalidating. Might be why a lot of queer men don't speak about byler much, because I think a lot of us have just nodded our heads to the good stuff about byler and tried to stay away from all this sort of stuff. Because let's be honest here, I think we all hate it! I mean my boyfriend (Shout out to my boyfriend who I'm gonna get to read over this after I post this) has also been a bit like "oh!...." to some of these byler fans as well. We are kind of terrified of how you guys see queer people!

I don't even think they like us speaking up about this either, and I personally believe it's because they don't want to face the reality of what their doing.

Like no offence to some of these women, but I don't think some of you all should CONTROL what other people think about this ship when you are clearly not a queer man yourself?

I think they should start consulting actual queer men and actually acknowledging the canon PROPERLY before they start talking about the morals on byler in the first place. Education first, and then ill listen to the attitude. Our ship shouldn't be morally superior to any other ship, that's not what shipping should be about.

Writing this has genuinely got me a little upset man, why are we treated like this? Why are fictional queer dynamics treated like this? Just why? We're people too. We have the same feelings just for different genders, why does it have to be so.... Eugh?
