Summertime || Sharrie
doctor-carrie:
The Summer found Carrie wandering around New York aimlessly. After bidding Mrs. Shane goodbye, along with her collar and ring, she stayed in the heart of Manhattan and found numerous things to do to keep herself busy. She visited old friends from when she worked in the city, did a good amount of shopping, and even went to a show or two. But most of her spare time was spent sitting in her hotel room, dreading upcoming school year and her return to Roselle. The silver lining was that she loved her job, but everything else seemed like it was going to be impossible to get through. The disappearance of Lindsay as well as the disassembled relationship she had with Shelby.
It was safe to say that Carrie was surprised when Shelby’s mom gave her a call and she was all too eager to agree to the lunch the older woman planned for her and her friend. The Switch spent far too long picking out her clothes and found that she was running late when it was already too late. She rushed to the restaurant and immediately caught sight of the Domme already waiting. She fixed her hair and nearly bum-rushed the table as she made her presence known.
“Hi, Miss. Sorry I’m late.”
Shelby closed the menu when Carrie arrived. She looked as well put together as usual if a little thinner. It didn’t take much detective work to assume exactly why the Switch had lost weight. “Hello, sweetheart,” she greeted. It took Shelby all of two seconds to zero in on Carrie’s bare neck. Her sharp eyes went from neck to eyes, one eyebrow raising in question.
It surprised Shelby that Carrie had taken it off. She assumed that Carrie would end up wearing it indefinitely. Shelby had tried to make peace with the fact that her friend would continue to hold onto something that would take up most of her life. It bothered Shelby that this woman who had so much potential was now going to be identified only by this failed relationship. Shelby’s ire for Lindsay seemed to grow by the day and she wasn’t sure that she would be able to forgive her friend should she ever reappear in her life. It was just the latest in a long line of losses for Shelby and she wondered if it was tragic or a sign of strength that she was coping so well.
Giving Carrie time to read the menu, she called over the waiter when they were ready and waited until she received her glass of wine to delve into deeper topics than simply how their summer was going. “You took it off,” she said simply.
