whenever he dropped sangwoo off to school, he was either attempting the signature mariah whistle notes and failing miserably, or sounding goofy as FUCK attempting to imitate MJ’s raspy nasal voice. he’d even throw in a half-hearted “HEE HEE” at traffic lights, like he expected applause.
sangwoo would sit there covering his ears and praying for that shit to stop. he’d would sit stiffly in the passenger seat, backpack hugged to his chest, staring straight ahead as if dissociating was the only path to survival.
as gihun inhaled for another “note,” sangwoo would let out a huge sigh. gihun would notice sangwoo’s disdain. every time it happened, he’d act offended.
“what?” he snaps, mid-whistle-attempt gone horribly wrong. “is my voice really that bad?!”
sangwoo lowers his hands just enough to glare at him.
“yes, hyung,” he mutters, drained. “my ears are fucking bleeding.”
gihun scoffs, cranking the volume up on the stereo as MJ or mariah riffs effortlessly over his struggle. “whatever dude. you just don’t respect musical greatness.”
but years later, long after he’s grown up, sangwoo will still swear that those mornings were the loudest, most chaotic, and somehow…one of the fondest memories of his upbringing. he’s developed a strange endearment for those days.
