I’m now on an indefinite hiatus. I thought it was obvious enough, but I guess not since I’ve had numerous people try to message me. Well, here I am spelling it out for anyone who couldn’t take a hint. And before some idiot gets confused about basic RP terms again, it means “No plans of continuing”. I don’t know how anybody who considers themselves a writer would use indefinite hiatus to mean a brief vacay from a blog.
I was introduced to Tumblr’s roleplaying community by a friend telling me it was a way for writers to collaborate with one another and create unique stories while improving their own writing skill. As anybody who’s been in the RPC for any length of time can tell you, that’s complete bullshit. If it was ever true once, it’s certainly not anymore. What Tumblr’s RPing is really for is for weirdos projecting themselves onto characters and losers trying to live out their fantasies. I’ve been in real RPCs before where IC truly didn’t equal OOC, but on Tumblr everyone spends so much time projecting that there’s barely a line anymore. So many lunatics talking about hearing their muses in their heads, or even wanting to pretend they were some anime girl muse or video game character muse in a past life!
Seriously folks, when you got told to get a life, that didn’t mean playing make-pretend about living some fictional character’s life. You had to fail the Heirarchy of Needs pretty badly to want that kind of extreme form of escapism.
In any half-decent RPC, people would still have limits so that they can, y’know, portray their own characters rather than trying to act out some powerfantasy of theirs. You know, people who understand the basics of storytelling? It’s why I’ve said for years how a weaker character takes more finesse to write than a stupidly overpowered one that can do anything at any time.
Though we already know which way Tumblr preferred to go. So many different godmodders and Power Sues to the point where it’s just “nuh uh, MY reality-bender is stronger than YOUR reality-bender” with plenty of metagaming and ass-pulls to sprinkle on it. At the worst of it you get people like Kako, powercreeping their own power fantasy muse until they’re literally bragging about how their precious little Power Sue OC is stronger than the next six most powerful characters combined. Like we get it, you’re that kid on the playground who went “My imaginary friend is stronger than your imaginary friend” to everyone else and never grew up. It says a lot about the RPC that they’d call that good writing when it’s just “my character can do anything I ever want them to and nobody can stop them”. Even Knell’s power fantasy muses weren’t that desperate.
The worst of it is, throughout it all I’ve barely seen any RPers who ever bothered to improve their writing. People that after several years still write the exact same way when they were high schoolers. As somebody who was told the RPC was a place where writers tried to improve themselves, that’s the biggest slap in the face. And why should they try? They have zero intentions of taking writing to mean anything beyond indulging in whatever fantasies they have.
And on that note, many of you should be fucking ashamed of yourselves. Writing out pedophilia for your own spank material? RPing your own family members to write them having sex? More than anything else, that shows just how the RPC is that you’d all tolerate and even participate in shit like that. I’ve even tried to give people the benefit of the doubt that maybe they just mean an adult timeline of a child muse (still sketchy af mind you) and nope, all they want to write is children having sex. You know who you are. Hell, it’s easily half the smut blogs even vaguely related to the Touhou RPC.
Anyways, all that’s half the reason I’ve barely done any threads on any of my four blogs. The other half is I’ve already been back in my old RPC on another site that won’t be linked here since we all know how toxic you Tumblr types are. I’ve also just gotten into job training, so I wasn’t going to have time to worry about Tumblr RPC and all your melodrama anyways. I figured I’d drop a post since people kept bugging me about it.
