❛   what?   ❜         she  came  prepared  for  a  fight,  and  despite  the  positive  reaction  she  knows  it  will  come  because  she  knows  what  she’ll  say.  still,  frame  shrinks  into  itself  as  lanky  arms  cross  against  her  chest.  his  amazement  hurts  more  than  if  he  had  been  angry.        ❛   i——  lip,  you  know  i  can’t…   support  a  child  right  now,  and  neither  can  you.   ❜         she  wants  children,  of  course,  an  attempt  to  fill  the  gap  that  her  family  never  could.  tears  fill  swollen  blue  eyes  and  she  swears  the  hormones  are  to  blame.        ❛   fuck,  we’re  not  even  together  anymore!  how  the  hell  are  gonna——   this  just  can’t  happen  right  now.  but  i  don’t  know  what  to  do.  i'm  freakin’  the  fuck  out,  lip,  and  i  don’t  know  what  the  fuck  to  do,  okay?  so——  you  can’t  be  all  happy  about  it  like  it’s  reasonable  for  us  to  have  a  baby  when  you  know  it’s  not,  ‘cause  i  came  here  for  help  and  you're  not  fuckin’  helping.   ❜

❝    no  fuckin’  shit. . .    ❞    he  was  laughing  in  disbelief,    a  flutter  of  excitement  in  his  stomach.    he  remembered  a  moment  that  was  so  long  ago  it  seemed  as  though  it  were  another  lifetime;   he’d  told  her  it  wouldn’t  be  the  worst  thing  in  the  world  to  have  a  child  with  her.   despite  it  being  completely  wrong  timing,    lip  meant  that.    ❝    i’m  gonna  be  a  dad.    ❞    so  quiet,    voice  was  almost  a  whisper.    he  was  mesmerised.

the news of sybil’s near demise had shaken thomas.  the only person in downton who had always been kind to him despite his treatment of others.  it meant more to him than he had ever admitted to anyone else,  let alone lady sybil.  after losing that companionship permanently,  he fully intended to make his appreciation for her known.    with a knock upon her door,  knowing full well that he was not exactly permitted into lady sybil’s room,  he figured it would be brushed aside in this moment.  ❝  may i come in,  lady sybil?  it’s mr.  barrow.  ❞

he feels out of place,  refusing to wear a dinner jacket or even black for that matter.  there were firm beliefs that he wasn’t ready to budge on,  but truthfully,  tom was questioning whether or not he ever would be.  he hated to disappoint his dear wife.  ❝  do you truly not mind my refusal of dinner jackets and tails?  i know wearin’ them won’t change me,  i don’t belief i ever will,  my darlin’,  but i do hate to disappoint you.  ❞
