JULIET CONRAD II EIGHTEEN YEARS OLD II GRYFFINDOR II SEVENTH YEAR
âOne of the things I learned the hard way was that it doesnât pay to get discouraged. Keeping busy and making optimism a way of life can restore your faith in yourself.â - Lucille Ball
A Bambi-eyed brunette with a mischievous streak, Juliet Conrad is a beloved and valued member of Gryffindor, with a thick cockney accent and a no-nonsense attitude that sets her apart from the rest of her fellow seventh years. Growing up in East London with her grandmother and her younger sister Mary, Juliet experienced tragedy at a young age. Losing boh their parents in a car accident when Juliet and Mary were young, they wre sent to live with their fatherâs mother Imelda Conrad, a loving but old fashioned woman who was very stuck in her ways and didnât care for troublemakers. Living in an enviroment where everything was sheduled and moderated, Juliet and her sister found themselves looking for trouble before they were even old enough for trouble to come looking for them.Â
A first the girls looked for extra snacks to eat aftet they were told it was no more food after dinner had finished, trying to cheat their grandma out of a win in Monopoly and rushing through their night time prayers for bed so they could stay up and whisper to one another. As the two girls aged and their grandma was unable to parent them as well as she once did, the playful cheeky side of Juliet was replaced by a more grown-up one, which she wore odly as a child of seven. Juliet began to do most of the care-taking in their household, looking after both Imelda and Mary. Learning to cook her grandmaâs recepies in her apron she had double round herself three times to fit round her lean little body. Juliet took her motherly role very seriously and became very overprotective especially of her little sister. Where they had once been best friends, Juliet found herself telling Mary to stop whispering and go to sleep. She plaited her hair every day before school, picked her up, took her home and made her dinner in a strict routine that didnât alter until something changed.
Like most magical children Juliet and Mary began noticing that strange things began to happen to them, things that couldnât be explained away. Whilst at primary school an older boy was pushing around Mary and teasing her for her the little ribbons in her hair. Juliet felt frustrated, she was powerless to stop it. She shouted loudly at him and shoved hard at the boy, before a large gust of wind blew a large bucket of water fell on top of him. He was knocked to the ground an soaked through, with childrne laughing all around them. Juliet blinked and looked at Mary. They said nothing but had known there had been no wind that day to carry the bucket until that single gust. After a while, Juliet and Mary had settled into the idea they were weird, when they fought the lights flickered on and off and their bookshelves rattled. They had no explination for it and they hid it from their grandma as best they could, fearing sheâd send them to a priest to knock the devil out of them.Â
When Juliet turned eleven she was granted her explination. She had been accepted into the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Going away to school was somewhat liberating for Juliet, finally away from motherly duties she was allowed to become a child and searched for action and adventure around every moving staircase. Juliet made friends fairly swiftly, befriending Charlotte Shaw during their train journey and later taking a liking to her life-long best friend Bryony Cates when they met during the welcome feast. Bryony is the opposite to Juliet in a lot of ways, being more girly and appearance oriented than Juliet, though sheâs every bit as brave and loyal. Juliet found she clicked well with her fellow Gryffindors and is incredibly close with a few members of her house, including Aditya Patil, Arthur Weasley and Frank Longbottom. Despite belonging to a little group of Gryffindors and being incredibly close with her Quidditch team, Juliet is also a very popular student amongst other houses, known for speaking her mind and defending her own honour against some of the more traditional and loud mouthed students.Â
Over the years her group has grown to include fellow Quidditch players, Gideon and Fabian Prewett who indulge her mischievous side and occasionally allow her to join in their schemes and help them plan their big parties. This can sometimes conflict with her duties as prefect causing them to reat her tentatively as a double-agent, similarly to Adi who often refuses to let Juliet in on any of his master plans in the event she deducts house ponts from Gryffindo. Despite being sensible, Juliet is the more adventurous member of her friendship group, willing to try anything once and throw herself into new things and meet new people no matter the consequence, which was why she bagn playing Quidditch in the first instance. Julietâs team spirit and uplifting energy has earned her many fans and friends during her time on the team, seeing them through two captains. As such she is close to current captain James Potter and star chaser Marlene McKinnon, acting as a friendly figure in their team as she has little patience to attempt to round them up and help Alice, due to her prior comitments with her trouble making little sister, something which another familar face on the pitch is happy to relate to.Â
Juliet has known the Ravenclaw captain Iain Wood for years, frequently seeing him at their practises in the stands attempeting to scope out the competition and put the players off their game. Unlike most girls who flock to Iain, Juliet is not afraid to speak her mind to Iain and refuses to feel intimidated by him. The fire storm, which contrasts Iainâs level headedness, Juliet isnât affraid to play a little violently to win and often enjoys getting into Iainâs head before a game and flirting with him the night before a big match to put him off his game. She does consider them friends and secretly enjoys their relationship though sheâd never tell him that. Most recently, Iain has been letting his gaurd down a bit more to Juliet, confiding in her regarding his cousin Marlene who is a bit of a rebel similarly to Mary. Juliet has been known to give Iain a pass into the Gryffindor parties to keep an eye on Marlene and claims it is in no way to enjoy the company of the handsome Scotsman.Â
Currently in her seventh year, Quidditch has had to take a bit of a back seat in Julietâs life as her N.E.W.T.S. get ever nearer though she still plays with the same passion and ferocity she did when she first began at eleven years old. A capable witch, she currently works as a barmaid at The Broomsticks to earn some extra money for Quidditch equipment and to go towards buying Mary her fabric. She is also a big participent in the Magic for Peace social movement, started by Charity Burbage. Juliet is a valued member if the group, constantly comes up with great ideas for protests, promotion and chants. Her greatest creation was turning the the flying aeroplanes at a Ministry protest into posters for equality to send the message around to all of the departments, which she got into a lot of trouble for over summer. A fiesty girl with a big heart, Juliet is a fierce friend and not the sort of person anyone would want to be on the wrong side of as many Hogwarts students can atest to.Â
