near has very poor vision due to his albinism. when he gets older, he needs reading glasses. he struggles to put eyedrops and contacts
matt started smoking when he was 11, sneaking cigarettes from one of the helpers at wammy’s
near is thai/british, mello is czech, and matt is german
mello’s strongest sense is smell. he’s extremely overdramatic about it, and kept holding his breath until he almost suffocated because he didn’t want to smell the scent of the burn ointment
near can cry fake tears whenever the situation calls for it
matt doesn’t hate near. instead he feels bad for him, but has never admitted that out loud. at wammys, matt sometimes offered to play with near to make up for staying silent and not interfering
near doesn’t like matt. he smokes too much for his liking. he liked when he’d watch matt play video games and matt let him sit beside him, but that was about it.
mello loved matt until the day he died. when they dated for a short period at wammys before breaking up, matt suspected that it was because of mello’s denial and religious guilt.
mello and matts friendship almost didn’t survive after the breakup. with mello avoiding him, matt had to go above and beyond to show mello that he still wanted to be friends. (i.e, scoring lower on tests on purpose to make mello feel better about his grade, hiding the fancy chocolate he liked under his pillow, knocking down near’s card towers)
near adapts to become more competent and independent when he grows older, and eventually lives alone with regular visits from lidner and gevanni (idk.. i just want to see him happy)
mello is a dog person. he feeds stray dogs on the streets, but has never actually owned one.
mello and matt bonded over cheesy romcoms that mello pretended to hate. mellos favorite is 10 things i hate about you, while matts favorite is the proposal.
near has a collection of action figures that he keeps safe on a shelf in his room, nobody is allowed to touch it
