March 1—Day 60 of #Mirthquake’s Year Long #ArtPrompt challenge begins Month THREE! Today’s Word-of-The-Day comes from the lovely Jaime Joyce: #CLOWN! There have been so many clowns in pop culture, from real life friendly characters, such as Emmett Kelly, Jr, Bozo the Clown, @mcdonalds “Ronald McDonald”, @ericstonestreet ‘s “Fizzbo”, and “Clarabelle” from Howdy Doody, to creepy clowns, such as @sid.haig Sid Haig’s “Captain Spaulding” from House of 1000 Corpses, @davidhowardthornton ‘s @arttheclownofficial “Art the Clown” from @terrifier2_official , @billoberstjr Bill Oberst Jr.’s “Papa Corn” from @circusofthedead , “Pennywise” from @stephenkingsit , and the titular @killerklownsfromouter space… And clowns that crossover, like that Gacy fella. I guess @dcharleyquinn and @thejoker would fall in there, too. But my favorite clown of all time, bar none, is the one portrayed by Alyson Court (@acourtroom) in The Big Comfy Couch @the.big.comfy.couch … #LOONETTE! When author Jim Beard of Becky Books contracted me to do covers and illustrations for his 1970s Action Figure Adventure series #DCJones I needed to come up with what the main character looked like. So I thought about the pre-Star Wars toys of my youth… #GIJoe, #AdventureTeam, #BigJim, #SixMillionDollarMan, #PulsarTheUltimateManOfAdventure… who had that same kind of strong featured face? Rugged, but not too “Movie star”. So I roughly based our hero on actor Fred Ward, who sadly passed away this week.
